3 Types of Damage To Expect From A Winter Storm

When it comes to the snowy winter months, there is no doubt that storm damage repair services are in high demand. However, homeowners need to be aware of the damage a winter storm can cause.

What Types Of Damage Can I Expect in the Way of Damage?

Roof Leaks

Snow and winter storms may have a broad range of effects on your home. For example, if you have ice dams on your roof, water may flow through and into your walls, causing structural damage to your property. Also, the roofs may collapse due to excessive accumulation on them.

So, the roof can be damaged by excessive temperatures and freezing water's impact. If there are any gaps, they may quickly turn into a much more significant issue. In many cases, the weight of snow might be too great for a roof to bear, causing it to collapse.

Frozen Pipes.

It's possible that your plumbing might freeze if the weather drops below freezing. If water freezes and stretches, it may cause frozen pipes to explode. As the pipe freezes, the burst will emit water at high pressure from where it occurred. However, it's considerably more dangerous inside the house because it may not be located easily.

Fire

Winter storms aren't the only thing that may endanger people's lives; many more factors are at play. The winter months see the greatest energy usage overall since several home appliances, including heaters, are utilized often and for longer periods during this season. Leaving heat sources unattended increases the risk of fire in your house.

Emergency Storm Restoration: 3 Things To Do.

Storm damage is a problem that affects people throughout the globe daily. As a result, whether you've ever experienced a hurricane or will in the future, you must have a recovery strategy in place. Here are three things to do if you've been affected by storm damage

Know The Extent Of The Damage.

Taking a few measures before you begin the restoration procedure is vital, so you don't waste time and money. So, having a qualified restoration specialist evaluate the problem may help you choose the best line of action. Also, make sure you document the damage as soon as possible to show your insurer what occurred.

Get In Touch With Your Insurance Company.

You should contact your insurance carrier once you get a damage assessment to file a claim. When describing the weather-related damage to your house or company, you should be as specific as possible. Your insurance company should tell you what to do next and put you in contact with a few emergency restoration providers.

Collaborate With A Restoration Team Expert.

It's critical to conduct your homework before picking a restoration service. No one who intends to cut shortcuts or ignore the minor details should be working on your house or company. So, look out for a professional storm restoration service near you.

Your Trusted Storm Restoration Company.

If you've suffered storm damage, SERVPRO of Stockton is here to help you figure out what to do next. In the event of a storm damage assessment, contact us at (209) 477-3090 and begin the process of rebuilding your home.

3 Things To Look For In A Professional Storm Damage Service

Rain Storm We have the experience and the equipment needed to cleanup and restore your home and help get life back to normal following storm damage.

3 Things To Look For In A Professional Storm Damage Service

If severe weather, such as a storm, tornado, or hurricane, causes damage to your property, you should first make arrangements for a trained storm damage expert to inspect the damage. But what are things to look for in a professional storm damage service?

What Are Things To Look For?

Watch out for positive reviews.

If you want to know how valuable a storm damage restoration expert will be, you should look at other people's prior experiences with them, just as with anything else. Do not employ someone with poor online evaluations. In contrast, don't allow a few unfavorable reviews to keep you from hiring someone who has had an overall positive experience with most clients. Sometimes, a customer's perception of the restoration expert's integrity and expertise is more important than how the insurer processed the claim.

Affordable Prices

Given that you will be paying for someone's services, it is reasonable to assume that you would be seeking a storm restoration expert who can provide their services at an affordable cost. Even though you will be responsible for the expense of hiring a restoration expert, your insurance company may reimburse you.

Look Out For Ones That Work With Insurance

Professional storm damage experts that deal with insurance companies may help you submit claims more swiftly and efficiently. Depending on how many other people were influenced by the storm, it may take some time to get in touch with your insurance company, so having a professional on your side can be beneficial.

Are you searching for a trusted storm restoration expert near you? Trust the SERVPRO of Stockton team to restore your home or business to its existing shape. Give us a call at (209) 477-3090.

What Is the Best Approach to Storm Damage Restoration?

5/11/2022 (Permalink)

Storm with lightning Whether you have minor storm damage or something larger to deal with, we have the experience and the equipment needed to cleanup and restore your home

What Is the Best Approach to Storm Damage Restoration?

Immediately after a large storm, you must take action to limit the damage to your property. Luckily, you may be left with minor damages from the storms, which must be dealt promptly to protect your safety and valuables. Initially, assessing the damage might be intimidating, but you can be proactive in handling your storm cleaning by following these steps.

Priority should be given to health and safety issues.

Always put off the electricity when managing water damage from a storm. Stormwater may have penetrated your walls and electrical wires, which can lead to fire incidents. Also, switch off the water supply to your home, and avoid the sewage system if the pipes look clogged.

Take Pictures of the Storm Damage.

Please take pictures of the damage to your home as soon as it is safe. This will help provide documentation for your insurance provider. Follow your insurance policy to guarantee that you speak with the right specialists for any mandatory inspections. Ensure to conduct an inventory of both the inside and outside of the property.

Fix the roof.

The roofs of buildings take the brunt of storm damage. When the roof is gone, water damage soon accumulates. To ensure that the remainder of your home is safe from future storms, get your roof examined and fixed as quickly as possible when the cleanup is complete.

Consult Professionals About Water Damage Restoration

Professional flood cleanup is required to ensure that every square inch of a flooded home is completely dry. While you can help remove damaged items, it's better to leave the rest in the hands of a professional.

Contact SERVPRO of Stockton immediately if you need storm damage restoration services today at (209) 477-3090.

What To Expect From Storm Damage Restoration Experts

Storm Damage On A Home Whether you have minor storm damage or something larger to deal with, we have the experience and the equipment needed to cleanup and restore your home

What To Expect From Storm Damage Restoration Experts

A storm is not a friendly scenario because it can cause a lot of harm to both structures and plants. Also, the building is at risk if the roof is compromised by wind damage. This can allow rain and snow to penetrate the roof's protective covering, causing the wood to expand and eventually degrade and mold. As a result, there will be a drooping ceiling and further issues. And because of the dangers of wind, rain, hail, and lightning, a storm damage restoration service is an excellent alternative for dealing with this emergency. Professionals in storm damage restoration services will likely engage in the following actions.

Complete Inspection

You can count on our professional restoration team to visit your home and do a complete inspection of the inside and outside of your building. This will assist them in determining the extent of the damage to discuss our plan to help return your property back to preloss condition. We’ll then work to remove the water that shouldn’t be there using pumps and water extracting equipment. In most circumstances, the restoration team will meet with you and your insurance company to discuss the remodeling ideas.

Use Of Professional Tools

Every detail must be agreed upon before work can begin. Depending on the nature of the storm damage, the restoration experts will utilize various tools. Professionals will use tools such as pumps and extractors to remove water from the impacted section of the building in the event of floods.

No chances For Mold and Mildew Growth

Mold and mildew won't have a chance to spread since generators will power their dehumidifiers and other specialized drying equipment. After disinfecting hard surfaces and shampooing salvageable carpets with specific cleansers, the professionals will also use deodorant to fight smells.

A Thorough Roof Evaluation

A storm damage restoration company can save your building by evaluating the roof and restoring the damaged portions if they are called promptly. In addition to sealing and restoring the roof, they also help with the ceiling.

As you can see, the storm damage restoration procedure must be handled by professionals when dealing with natural calamities. SERVPRO of Stockton can help you if you've recently suffered storm damage and need storm damage repair or water damage cleanup services. Call us at (209) 477-3090.

How You Can Prevent Water Damage from Plumbing, Storm, or Flood Issues

Water Damage and Home Safety

When you suffer from water damage in a home, it's important to note the steps that could have led to its prevention. Plumbing, storm, or flood issues are extremely costly and typically require immediate action to remediate.

Leaking Supply Line

Washing machines tend to be fed by supply lines that face constant pressure. In the event that your water lines are composed of braided stainless steel, you often do not need to be concerned. The problem lies in whether or not the washing machine contains supply lines composed of PVC or rubber. These can easily rupture and wear out, which results in an entire laundry room flooding in the span of a handful of minutes if you fail to shut off the source of water in time. In short, use the right material for all lines.

Air Conditioning Condensation

AC units are designed to produce condensation in which moisture drips from the evaporator coil into a pan and is ejected from a property via a drain line. This system works until damage is taken by the pan or the drain line becomes clogged with dirt or dust. When water cannot escape, it will leak out from your AC straight into the house. All that unwanted water can damage the walls and floor, weakening the insulation.

Blocked Drains

Any drain, regardless of whether it is a kitchen sink, bathtub, or bathroom floor, can clog for a variety of reasons. Grease buildup, dirt, hair, toiletries, and other foreign objects have the potential to obstruct the pipe and prevent proper drainage. After a storm occurs drains can easily become filled with miscellaneous debris. When not taken care of on a routine basis, they can easily back up, resulting in water damage and flooding.

Handling Flood Damage in Stockton

Floods are likely to happen in any area, including Stockton. Flood damage is of particular importance to address sooner than later since flooding comes from outside. The water that floods in is often mixed with some dirt and other elements that could damage the property if not taken care of right away. There is usually no warning that occurs before any water damage. However, flood damage in the Stockton area is hard to avoid, no matter how many warnings of a severe storm one gets beforehand.

Flood damage in Stockton is often the result of a significant storm. With storm-induced floods, there is a greater vulnerability to mildew. For this reason, it is essential to hire a professional water damage repair and restoration company to make sure that every trace of water damage is taken care of and every source of water is found. Depending on the nature of the storm that results in flooding, there could be new leaks in the home. There could also be new areas that allow water onto the property. Fortunately, restoration companies have the tools required to locate all of the vulnerable areas in the home.

Equipment Used During Flood Damage Restoration

Among the tools that companies use are moisture detectors, hygrometers, and infrared cameras. This is because water damage can be hard to find without the utilization of these tools. These devices locate hidden moisture and the sources of moisture so that the property can be better cleaned. In some cases, it might be necessary to replace materials in the house in the event of significant damage.

One company that is worth hiring for a complete property repair service is SERVPRO. We specialize in cleaning up water damage and other forms of damage caused by floods, storms, and even fire. They also take the time to replace and restore any part of the property that has sustained substantial damage to avoid any future problems.

As Time Passes, Flood-Damaged Stockton Homes Could Develop All Kinds of Issues.

When Stockton residents experience a flooding event, they fixate on the immediately noticeable damage that often results. Given that the worst flood-related problems generally develop over time, if an impacted home is not properly remediated, this behavior is a bit misguided.

As the professionals at SERVPRO, a Stockton flood damage cleanup and restoration company, know, the initial impact of a weather-related event is often deceiving. Many homeowners struggle to eliminate the observable mess created but never even consider the unseen microbial threats lurking within contaminated floodwaters that could make their homes unlivable in the future. These microscopic bacteria, fungi, and parasites could eventually undermine the structural integrity of your house or apartment, discolor your home’s walls and ceilings, produce persistent and unbearably foul odors, and perhaps even cause health effects.

Some of the specific long-term effects of flood damage are:

  • Dry rot that weakens walls and ceilings to the point of collapse
  • Mold and mildew growths that discolor interiors throughout your residence
  • Pervasive pungent smells that cannot be neutralized with everyday deodorizing efforts
  • Health effects in residents and visitors

Fortunately, SERVPRO’s various service offerings help to eliminate these potential long-term risks. Our biohazard remediation efforts, including sewage cleanup services, serve to sanitize homes and reduce or eliminate harmful microbes. The rapid water cleanup and drying measure our technicians take serve to reduce the chances of dry rot and mold growth. Finally, our water damage repairs and interior deodorization help return your residence to its pre-flood level of livability.

So, if you need flood damage remediation, contact the experts at SERVPRO of Stockton. We are available for your call anytime at (209) 477-3090.

Why Should You Trust SERVPRO for Flood Damage Restoration of Your Stockton Home?

Water cleanup after flood damage due to a storm to your Stockton home is a job for the professionals. Floodwater often contains contaminants that can be properly mitigated only by experienced restorers having the right equipment. Flood restoration experts of SERVPRO use a combination of antimicrobial agents and disinfectants to return your Stockton home to a preloss condition as quickly as possible.

SERVPRO technicians use many chemical agents to mitigate a contaminated flood-damaged area. The chemical agents that we use in Stockton homes for this purpose are called Antimicrobials. These agents can prevent the development and stop the growth of microorganisms during the water damage remediation process after a flooding incidence.

What are the Various Types of Antimicrobials SERVPRO Uses During Water Damage Mitigation of Your Flooded Stockton Home?

SERVPRO technicians use a combination of antimicrobial agents during flood damage cleanup of your Stockton home. Some of the most common chemical agents we use include:

  • Disinfectants: Antimicrobials that can destroy about 99% of organisms that they contact on any surface. Common disinfectants include phenols, alcohol, formaldehyde, and chlorines.
  • Sanitizers: Agents used to reduce the microbes to acceptable levels in compliance with public health authorities
  • Sporicides: An antimicrobial that is effective in controlling spores of bacteria and fungi
  • Sterilizers: Destroy all microorganisms- bacteria, fungi, and even spores. Sterilizing in water damage is generally not possible.

SERVPRO works quickly to lessen the devastation and cost, and help you return to your routine sooner. We are available 24 hours a day with crews on standby to get the prompt action that you deserve.

What is the Recovery Time Like After Flooding?

The great thing about calling in the help of skilled technicians for assistance with flood damage in Stockton is that you get fast response and efficient results. SERVPRO features a team of IICRC-certified technicians that have been through extensive training and uses all of the latest techniques to handle any size water loss event. Our crew chief comes out to your property in as little as a few hours or less after your call to begin the assessment and planning for fast cleanup and restoration.

Why is Flood Water Considered Dangerous?

Whenever you experience a storm that results in high levels of flooding in Stockton, the water that comes into your home may contain:

  •   Mud, silt, and other debris
  •   Chemicals or fuel
  •   Fecal matter and high levels of bacteria

Homeowners have the tough decision to make whether to attempt cleanup with DIY methods or calling in the help of expert technicians. However, DIY plans alone using consumer products and equipment take longer, and you run the risk of leaving moisture and potentially harmful contaminants behind. When SERVPRO is on the job, we come equipped to handle flooding situations with an extensive selection of tools, such as:

  •   Extraction Tools & Pumps
  •   Industrial-Strength Fans & Centrifugal Air Movers
  •   Professional-Grade Dehumidification Equipment
  •   EPA-Registered Disinfectants & Cleaning Agents

The higher the humidity within the loss zone and your interior, the longer the drying times will be. We use a specialized formula that allows us to monitor the relative humidity within your home, and we adjust all of our equipment accordingly. The temperature within the space impacts the ability to extract water from materials as well as the capacity of the air to hold moisture. Our skilled technicians understand all of the best practices for manipulating both humidity levels and temperatures to create an environment that allows us to achieve our drying goals.

For any water loss event, we pay close attention to the critical factors of drying:

  •   Humidity – we must lower the humidity ratio within your home to lower vapor pressure. This allows water to evaporate more rapidly as long as the air located above the saturated materials has lower pressure.
  •   Airflow – while the water is evaporating from various materials, the air in the boundary layer above it becomes saturated and cool. Targeted airflow disrupts this boundary layer to increase the evaporation rate with warmer, drier air.
  •   Temperature – it is vital to increase material temperatures. Doing so helps increase energy within the trapped water molecules, thus increasing evaporation rates.

Will Flood Mitigation Efforts Be Safe?

SERVPRO always works carefully to ensure a safe working environment for our technicians and anyone else in the home. We take the time to look for potential hazards in and around the affected area, such as:

  •   Slip and fall hazards due to standing water on floors or subflooring that has begun to deteriorate
  •   Electrical dangers and the potential for shock due to water intrusion
  •   Hazards overhead, including saturated ceilings that could collapse
  •   Contamination within the floodwater itself
  •   Hazards due to inadequate lighting in the flood-loss zone
  •   Safety concerns for bystanders or occupants during the mitigation and restoration process

Why is Time an Issue with Flood Damage?

The longer that water intrusion is left to dwell within your living space, the higher the chance the microbial growth sets in. Microbes are present within all water damage situations and can grow at an exponential rate given the right environment. Clean water situations can turn into gray water situations within days. With a floodwater event that includes contaminated water, the need for immediate action becomes amplified. The potential health hazards from microbes come about when they enter the human body by way of:

  •   Breathing them into your lungs
  •   Ingesting them
  •   Absorption into the skin

The longer that the floodwater is left to fester, the more the health risks increase. Our crews work fast while wearing all of the right personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure our safety while ensuring that contaminants do not get tracked from one zone to the next.

When you call SERVPRO of Stockton to help with flood damage after a storm, you can trust that we get to work quickly and follow best practices to ensure quality results. To have a crew deployed to your property 24/7, call us at (209) 477-3090.

What is the Safest Way to Repair my Home After a Storm?

6/9/2020 (Permalink)

Home in flood water Let us help you get your Stockton home back in order after a devastation.

SERVPRO is a Qualified Flood Damage Restorer for Storm and Water-related Property Losses.

Can storms lead to a full-building collapse?

It is rare to experience storms and floods that are powerful enough to cause property collapse here in Stockton. For a building to collapse, there needs to be significant structural harm to a property, which is unlikely to occur when winds remain below ninety miles per hour. However, a storm flood can shift ground at the foundation of your home or exert significant pressure onto the walls and ceilings. Without timely intervention, these factors can weaken a property to the point that it may collapse. Use SERVPRO to ensure your property recovers.

Where am I most likely to find property damage after a storm?

You may experience flood damage in the lower regions of your Stockton home. Flooding commonly occurs during storms due to groundwater swells, dam busts, or coastal overflow. Strong winds may also cause harm to your roofing structure by blowing off tiles or guttering. The final places you are likely to find damages are windows or doorways, which can break under the pressure of rushing water or high winds. SERVPRO restorers can mitigate these losses while you organize remodeling or re-installation of the core structure.

What should I do when water intrudes into my home?

- Keep out of contact with floodwaters which may have contamination

- Evacuate the property bringing with you only essential items

- Contact your insurer to inform them of your situation

- Bring in professional restorers to mitigate losses

How can I dry out a flooded property?

Removing excess water using water extractors or pumping equipment is the first step toward drying your property. Extractors can be up to 900 times more effective at drying a property than dehumidifiers. Once excess moisture is gone, you can begin to dry the structure. Crucial to drying is to provide ample airflow, temperature, and dehumidification

Protect Yourself from Flood Damage when Restoring your Stockton Home

Floodwaters that enter your home carry with them many potential hazards. There is a high risk of water contamination that could bring in human pathogens, animal carcass, or raw sewage. There are also physical barriers as well as debris that could present a tripping hazard. However, the longer floodwaters are present in a home environment, the higher the likelihood of permanent damages. Fabrics, carpets, upholstery, and floorboards can all suffer from long-term exposure to moisture. Rising humidity levels can also contribute to condensation inside wall cavities or weakening of the overall structure.

If you plan to tackle flood damage in your Stockton home, it is essential to prepare. All SERVPRO professional restorers carry personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Failure to adhere to safety guidelines could result in personal harm or injury. If you do decide to enter a flooded property, you should wear chemical resistant gloves. Your hands can become contaminated with micro-organisms as well as absorb chemical substances. This can become a severe issue by spreading contaminants to the eyes, nose, or mouth.

Demolition may be a requirement in restoring your home. Removing porous drywall or fittings, as well as physical barriers to drying, are necessary. Since there may be sharp edges, splinters, or nails, heavy-duty gloves can protect you against injury from the removal of non-salvageable materials. You need to also protect your eyes and lungs from airborne dust releasing during demolition. Sewer gases can also be harmful to your health. Splash goggles or safety glasses and respirators should be worn at all times inside a flooded property.

Depending on the severity of structural damage in your home, you may also need a hard hat to protect yourself from falling debris, rubber boots, and ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) to protect electric equipment. Self-restoring a property is no mean feat, and a minimum requirement is the correct PPE. SERVPRO is a locally operated company that can carry out the restoration of your property and provide the best chance of restoration to a preloss condition.

You can reach us anytime in an emergency for professional assistance. Contact SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090.

SERVPRO Vehicles and Rows of AIr Movers Outside Yes, SERVPRO Has Air Movers--Plenty of Them to Dry Out Flood-Damaged Properties in Stockton

Four Types Of Air Movers Used During Flood Water Removal In Stockton

Whenever moisture makes its way into your Stockton dwelling, it is smart to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO because we can implement methods to remove moisture rapidly, before secondary damage occurs. Even during small flood water removal projects, the presence of moisture can ruin your building materials and contents as well as create prime conditions for mold to grow. Whenever anything inside your house gets wet, structural drying is vital.

When drying out your structure as a part of your Stockton flood water removal project, we change the environment in ways that speed up the natural evaporation and drying process. We alter the atmosphere inside your building by setting up air movers and dehumidifiers. The air movers keep air circulating so that water can continue evaporating from wet materials. The dehumidifiers then lower the humidity levels in the affected area.

Creating air circulation in the affected region our SERVPRO crew is drying helps the wet air next to damp surfaces get pushed away so that evaporation does not slow down due to saturated air. Depending on the situation, we can use the following four different types of air movers when conducting rapid structural drying.

1. Centrifugal Air Movers
Centrifugal air movers consist of a moving part called an impeller that consists of a shaft with blades attached to it. The impeller rotates, and the blades pull air in from the side of the unit and then push it out the exhaust outlet. We can direct strategic air currents with these devices.

2. Axial Air Movers
Axial air movers can move larger volumes of air compared to centrifugal air movers. Axial units can cover larger areas because it pulls a larger volume of air at a lower pressure. These are industrial grade box fans.

3. Structural Cavity Drying Equipment
These injection dryers can be used to push air into wall cavities to dry out the studs and the back of the drywall material. The units consist of a motor that pumps air into a series of tubes that get stuck into holes drilled into the walls of the affected areas. The injectidry system is very effective.

4. Air Filtration Devices and Air Scrubbers
An air filtration device can move air and filter it at the same time. Multiple filters can be used in these machines, including high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that can trap harmful particles such as bacteria or mold spores.

Calling us to help you with your mitigation project can ensure that your house can be returned to preloss conditions, "Like it never even happened." For immediate assistance, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 24/7.

Deal With Storm Damage in Your Lincoln Village Residence Through Prompt Restoration

9/13/2019 (Permalink)

Large tree laying on a home. SERVPRO knows what to do when it comes to your Lincoln Village Storm damage.

Storm damage in your Lincoln Village home is no joke, we will help you.

Storms bring about the worst weather conditions, including strong winds, torrential downpour, and the sounds and sights of thunder and lightning. Strong winds can bring items like branches and debris crashing into your home, which can lead to structural damage like busted doors, broken windows, and cracked walls. Rainwater can also enter your living spaces, causing indoor flooding.

Once the storm is over, your home can be soggy and damaged, and your possessions could be heavily drenched. You, therefore, need to deal with the flood damage in your Lincoln Village residence to make it inhabitable again. Prompt restoration can prevent the long term effects of flooding, such as:

Mold growth -

Mold spores can grow into colonies quickly after they are exposed to water. They can grow in damp materials after 24 to 48 hours. Mold can cause health issues to the occupants of a home and a strong, musty scent.

Fungal decay in timber -

Wood is prone to attacks from fungi. Ventilation and drying to wooden structures helps prevent fungi outbreaks.

Damp staining -

Floodwater may transport minerals in solution while moving through a building. The minerals can then get deposited on the floor and wall finishes, remaining there after the water evaporates.

To restore your home after a flooding incident, you need the right equipment, protective gear, and know the appropriate way to clean up, dry and sanitize the property. Therefore, it is advisable to entrust the restoration work to SERVPRO franchise professionals. Once we arrive at your home, we can inspect the destruction we are dealing with and provide you with an estimate. After that, we can proceed with the restoration process.

We remove scattered debris immediately to make it easier to assess and work on your home further. If there is standing water in your home, we can drain it out using portable or truck-mounted pumps. At times, our technicians use disinfectants like phenols, quaternaries, alcohols, formaldehydes, and chlorines to sanitize contaminated water before pumping it out.

We are cautious when pumping out high levels of water from crawl spaces and basements because the highly saturated soil adjacent to walls and foundations could collapse as a result of hydrostatic pressure. We dispose of the extracted water in a sanitary sewer system or at appropriately licensed disposal facilities.

Our SERVPRO technicians also dry a home effectively using air movers and dehumidifiers. After the restoration process, we perform a final inspection to ensure that you are happy with the result. Through the final inspection, we can know if we have missed anything important and confirm that your property is safe and secure. At your request, a third party such as an indoor environmental professional (IEP) may also come in and test the indoor environment to ensure that your home is safe for occupancy.

How to Choose the Correct Water Extraction Equipment for Floodwater Removal in Stockton Homes

8/8/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Stockton is available 24/7 and has the equipment on standby to dry your home.

Choosing the Right Extraction Tools for Stockton Homes

You might not have the experience amid a crisis to determine the best piece of equipment to use and the ideal approach for extraction and drying your Stockton home. Flooding can spread quickly throughout your property, leaving homeowners with little time to decide their next course of action.  Preparing early for these potential scenarios can save you time, money, and stress. Adequate preparation for potential flooding begins with understanding the best tools for specific recovery steps like extraction.

Flood water removal takes advanced equipment. Flood removal for your Stockton home might seem to be a simple approach, but there are many layers to this water removal that can become even more complicated without the right tools and know-how. Our SERVPRO professionals have a deep inventory of the industry’s top-tier equipment, technology, and products.  We offer our customers a thoroughly efficient and cost-effective approach with every flood recovery project we undertake.

Ultimately, much like our SERVPRO team, there are several ideal pieces of equipment homeowners can use to begin removing standing water from their property:

  • Wet/Dry Vac – This is a piece of equipment that many homeowners already own for their garage, shops, and other utility areas of their home. While these can be effective with concentrated areas of standing water, they require regular dumping of the collection tank.
  • Submersible Pump – Electric portable pumps can quickly remove volumes of standing water, and with enough lengths of hose attached, can discharge entirely outside the home or to the nearest drain in the house.
  • Gas-Powered, Engine-Driven Pumps – Much like the other options, these are available for sale at home improvement locations in the area and are ideal for high volume extractions – especially in areas where electricity has gotten temporarily disconnected.

Always consider unintended consequences from DIY floodwater removal, which is usually Category 3 contaminated water. Why risk exposure to toxins, microorganisms, and hidden debris? Mold growth can often be a potential problem resulting in another round of cleanup.

While you cannot fully predict when flooding scenarios can occur in your home, you can do whatever is necessary to prepare for these situations. Extraction and drying are vital components to recovering property, and our SERVPRO of Stockton team can help you, however, you need. Give us a call anytime to make flood loss events “Like it never even happened.” at (209) 477-3090.

Our Skilled Flood Damage Professionals Can Save Your Stockton Home

If your home has been affected by floodwater, regardless of how much or how little, call us today to restore it to its pre-flood state.

Professional Flood Damage Control In The Stockton Area

With the San Joaquin River running through it, Stockton is a town used to floods and the damage they bring almost every year. Residents understand that mitigating and eliminating the effects of the floodwater once it starts to recede takes a restoration service with years of experience, and training on the newest restoration equipment available.

To handle Stockton flood damage properly, SERVPRO Cleanup & Restoration trains every team member as a certified Water Damage Restoration Technician or WRT before they go out on a service call. Then, they can perform every task needed to draw water out of the home.

Pumping out floodwater can take many labor hours. Each WRT has access to the newest commercial-grade pumps and extraction devices to ensure they accomplish the operation quickly, and without causing secondary damage to the floors or walls. For very large homes in deep water, WRTs use truck mounted devices to continuously remove water overnight or throughout a couple of days if needed.

If the floodwater has mostly receded or is limited to one area in the home, SERVPRO technicians also have access to extractors that look much like a standard water-vac but are more powerful and adjustable in terms of vacuum and a heating element that can also be engaged to begin the drying process simultaneously. In tight areas like closets, they use a device which is worn like a backpack and can draw out 5-12 gallons depending on the size of the waste tank.

Regardless of the amount extracted, all floodwater contains some level of dirt, animal waste, and other contaminants. WRTs pump or empty all floodwater directly into the nearest sewer access point. If one is not available, technicians direct it all into a tank truck for delivery to a wastewater treatment plant for filtering and recycling.

In addition to our city, SERVPRO of Stockton also services Lincoln Village, Ortega, and other surrounding communities along the San Joaquin River. If your home has been affected by floodwater, regardless of how much or how little, call us today at (209) 477-3090 to restore it to its pre-flood state. We are here for you.

Drying after Water Removal is Crucial for Stockton Properties

The SERVPRO Vehicle Means Flood Restoration for Stockton Home Owners

Manage Flood Damage in Your Stockton Home Through Applied Structural Drying

Heavy rain and storms are a leading cause of flooding, which causes headaches for property owners. Storms accompanied by strong winds can leave the inside of a home vulnerable to water damage if they cause building materials like shingles to blow off, crack or bend.

Some damage occurs within minutes after water enters a house while other types of destruction develop several days afterward. Flood damage in your Stockton home can get worse before the first 24 hours have passed. Water can cause warping or swelling of flooring, furniture, and drywall. Calling a professional water damage restoration firm like SERVPRO as soon as you can is critical.

Proper drying should take place before any restoration work begins. Otherwise, mold can continue to grow, making it necessary to replace new wall coverings or repaint walls. When your home has a bad case of water damage, you may think about demolishing the affected area. However, with today’s technology, demolition is the last resort. The first line of action is restoring property through applied structural drying (ASD).

Our priority is mitigating the extent of water damage by identifying damaged areas. Our ASD technicians also evaluate the gravity of the water damage and determine what cleanup methods and equipment to use. Based on this data, we work on the flood-damaged areas. We can use pumps to extract the water, air movers to increase evaporation and Low-grain refrigerant (LGR) dehumidifiers to remove water vapor from the air. Our SERVPRO technicians also dry wood, metal and plastic furniture, dispose of unsalvageable items and deal with the other ruined materials.

We create a drying goal and monitor the drying process daily to see if the equipment is working as it should and if the areas are getting dry. Our drying goal includes moisture content readings from dry, unaffected structure and contents, readings in percentage for materials made of wood, and readings in points for nonwood materials. We use moisture meters to see if the drying goals are being reached. Once we achieve these aims, we consider the drying process to be complete.

If you have experienced flooding in your home, contact SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 for structural drying service and restoration services. Through our expertise and advanced equipment, whenever possible, we can make the flood damage look “Like it never even happened.”

How to Handle Storm Damage in Stockton Properly

Even with predicting storms, it is not easy to avoid the damaged they cause to Stockton homes. Usually, the only solution is to prepare for the cleanup and restoration necessary after the incident. Working with an IICRC certified restoration company helps because they utilize the best techniques and equipment to restore your property.

In cases of storm damage in Stockton, being quick to start the restoration process is essential. The longer the initial damage caused by the storm remains unaddressed, the more secondary damage happens. Our SERVPRO technicians help in this case by boarding up the property or placing roof tarps in case it was blown off, or holes punched through by falling tree branches. Doing this ensures that weather elements such as rain do not cause additional damages. This step is significant considering insurance companies require homeowners to prevent secondary damage to their property.

Away from structural damage, storms dump water filled with contaminants into the affected property. Common contaminants include silt, sewage, chemicals, and oil fuel among others. The level of contaminants depends on what is in the surrounding areas or where the water originates. Our SERVPRO crews help clean up these wastes left by the storm in your property “Like it never even happened.” We can pressure wash affected areas to remove soiling and debris from non-porous surfaces like wood and concrete and in the case of silt, we have shovels. The goal in our cleaning efforts is to attain sanitary levels.

One of the long-term effects of storm damage is moisture problems. Our SERVPRO team can help you dry your structure to normal levels. ASD, Applied Structural Drying certification means our crew utilizes the most effective techniques when drying the structure. Depending on the situation, we can use an open or closed drying system. The former involves opening up windows and other access points, then using air movers to drive moisture-filled air from the structure. Unwelcome Trees in Your Stockton Property Roof? SERVPRO Responds Swiftly After a Storm

Flood Damage Problems in Stockton from Storm Damaged Roofs

When a storm comes into the Stockton area, damage to your roof is relatively common. Once a hole in your roof gets large enough, extensive flood damage can result. During a rainstorm, many elements such as wind or even hail can arise that can ruin your roof shingles. Wind can blow rocks or other objects into your home and create holes in your roof or exterior walls that rainwater can enter. Once water starts entering the interior of your home, flood damage can occur from the top of your house to the bottom.

As soon as moisture enters your home from the outside, multiple issues can quickly arise. The best thing to do is to immediately call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO to mitigate the flood damage inside your Stockton home. Water coming from the outside is considered black water and may be contaminated with harmful bacteria. Rainwater can also bring in microbes from the outside increasing the chance of microbial growth, no one wants molds growing in their attics.

In many cases, the first place that retains moisture after your roof leaks, is your attic. Elevated moisture levels inside your attic can ruin building materials if the area does not get dried out promptly. If the insulation inside the attic gets wet, the moisture can decrease the R-value of the material. Some types of insulation can get dry when wet, whereas other kinds must be removed.

After removing wet insulation, our SERVPRO team can then dry out the wet ceiling materials and roof trusses. To do this we often create a containment chamber to better control the environment in the affected area and to prevent harmful particles from entering the rest of the house. We then set up heated air movers to create a circular air movement inside the area. In addition to the air movers, we also set up dehumidifiers that remove moisture from the air. Once building materials are dry, we treat the attic with anti-microbial chemicals and sometimes spray the trusses with a specialized sealant paint to inhibit fungal growth.

If you ever have a problem inside your attic after a storm, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 seven days a week.

California Dreamin' or Nightmare? Flooding in Stockton Means a Call to SERVPRO

California Dreamin'--NO Flooding in Stockton

Making Safety a Priority during Situations Involving Flood Damage Exist in Stockton

Our state holds so many various and drastic changes within its borders and Stockton residents need to prepare for the possibility of any of the disasters that might happen. Crises can happen without warning, and many can create severe property damage as well as risky conditions that can cause injury or loss of life.

SERVPRO technicians live in the same communities our customers do, including Stockton, so we understand how disasters like flood damage can create a multitude of unpleasant life-changing problems. Mudslides may also occur in areas where wildfires have stripped the landscape of trees and vegetation. We can undo the damage and make it plausible for your family to return home. We work as quickly and as steadily as possible to make this happen as soon as possible for you.

Flood damage can cause structural damage that can make your home to twist. If your front door is suddenly out of square and does not close, there is a structural problem. These slight movements might not seem like much because your home remains in the same place, but glass windows can break and shatter under the slightest tension. Flooding brings in filthy water that hides these shards and other dangers from view. We wear personal protective equipment to protect us from cuts and punctures from glass and other sharp objects.

Our cleanup crews use submersible pumps to remove the water left behind and then switch to hand-held extraction units to remove water retained in smaller areas. Once we get this excess removed,  and it can take days, we can concentrate on getting the carpet out so we can dry the flooring underneath. Removing materials left soggy by dirty, contaminated water means we can dry less. It also means we have less to clean and sanitize, making our work progress even faster.

Because flooding can happen at any time, we enthusiastically encourage area residents to prepare for flood damage and other disasters during National Preparedness Month. During such incidents, having enough food and clean water for your family in the event you become trapped in your home becomes a crucial step in protecting your loved ones. The Red Cross can help you learn how to prepare in other ways that can make life more comfortable for youngsters who may not understand the disruption flooding can place on communities.

SERVPRO of Stockton wants to ensure all our residents live in clean, sturdy homes, and mitigating flood damage can make your home temporarily unfit to house your family. Call us at (209) 477-3090, so we can help make everything normal again for you.

How Storm Damage Leads to Water Incidents in Your Lincoln Village Residence

8/31/2018 (Permalink)

A tree that falls on your home during a storm can bring in both water and other outside elements. Contact SERVPRO for remediation options.

SERVPRO Technicians Offer Quick Response to Your Water Damage Emergency

Storms can pass through the Lincoln Village area with minimal warning. Given the right conditions, severe systems can adversely affect the exterior of your home which can lead to some acute damages that require the experience and equipment of professional restoration outfits.

While there might not always be a way to prevent storm damages or even the water damage in Lincoln Village they might ultimately lead to in your residence, having a plan in place for how to restore these effects is an excellent place to start. There are a wide array of damages that a storm can do to your home all by itself, but when you take into account the ability to knock down trees and utility line support poles, the threat to your home from powerful winds and torrential rainfall increases exponentially.

One of the first things that you should consider about the potential water damage that could affect your home in the wake of a storm is the penetration of water through your damaged roof. High winds, hail and torrential rainfall can cause a destructive force to the roofing materials used in the construction of your home. If at any point these materials weaken or break away, you have a point of access for runoff water and direct rainfall to seep inside. Our SERVPRO technicians can help to board off or seal over these damaged areas to begin drying and cleanup work right away.

Another something to consider is the effects caused by something falling into your home like the aforementioned tree or utility pole. The heavier weight can cut through thin materials like plywood and allow for water to enter your home unabated. In an emergency like this, it is always good to know that SERVPRO can arrive quickly to help mitigate the loss in this situation before it gets out of control.

From the drying of the water damage to the intricate dehumidification process in insulated areas like the attic or wall cavities, professional restoration like our SERVPRO of Stockton team can help you every step of the way. If you have water damage to contend with, do not hesitate to call us 24/7 at (209) 477-3090.

Common Issues With Flooding In Your Stockton Home

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

With so many mounting issues that come with flooding damages, professional restoration is your best hope.

Common Issues With Flooding

Creeks, streams, and rivers around the Stockton area are especially susceptible to substantial rainfall. Combatting the effects of flooding in your home is not something that any homeowner is prepared to face, but something that many have to at one time or another. There are many considerations when it comes to flooding that urges the homeowner to choose professional restoration in light of doing the work themselves.

The more that you can understand about flood damages in your Stockton residence, the better prepared you are for facing them. Many times, the damage is too serious to restore or clean up on your own, and the solution to this issue is to leave it in the hands of trusted professionals like our SERVPRO team.

One of the most obvious effects of flooding in your residence is the high volume of water. Within a short period, this presence can overly saturate construction materials and cause irreparable damage to the contents of your home in these affected areas. Mitigation of this damage is critical, and this process is most successful when homeowners waste no time in calling our SERVPRO technicians to get to work on stopping the damage from getting worse.

Another lesser considered aspect of creeks and streams rising is contaminants getting into your home from the runoff. Often many substances are haphazardly dumped into these bodies of water, diluding down to acceptable levels once it merges with a larger body. In your home, however, there could be foreign substances or even chemicals in the water affecting your house.

Mud and debris are also struggles that those facing flood damages have to contend with as well. Even in removing a significant amount of the water, dirt and mud cake to surfaces and saturate through carpeting. This inevitability requires specialized cleaning efforts beyond conventional extraction and drying for the water removal alone.

With so many mounting issues that come with flooding damages, professional restoration is the best hope for efficient removal of the water and quality cleaning efforts. Give our SERVPRO of Stockton technicians a call 24/7 at (209) 477-3090.

SERVPRO Technicians Effectively Dry Out Your Property After Flooding

When a city is founded beside a river, it provides an excellent source of running water, but the city also has the potential of sustaining flood damage during storms. The unique geographic position that some homes hold near the river means that they also run the risk of flooding during an unusually severe storm. Excessive rainwater, intense winds, and debris that are carried by the rushing water make this situation dangerous for the longevity of your home. Fortunately, once the storm settles, and the water returns to the river, professional help nearby is only a phone call away.

A wayward rock breaking a window is an easy way that water can rush into your living room and cause flood damage in Stockton. Your hardwood floors, expensive furniture, and electronics are all in danger from the moment the water touches them. Unfortunately, the longer the water sits without removal, the more damage it can cause to your precious belongings.

Wood can warp and blister when exposed to water while it absorbs it, and electronics can short out. Allowing this water to sit stagnant for even a couple of days runs the risk of letting microbial growth to occur. Mold growing in your home can cause further damages and thus eat more expenses to remediate. It is best to call for help as soon as you find flood water in your home.

Here at SERVPRO, we strive to get to your home as soon as we can after your call. Our IICRC-certified technicians can bring industrial quality trade technology to your home so they can extract the water as quickly as possible. Using tools like extractors, submersible pumps, and wet/dry vacuums allow SERVPRO to remove the water swiftly. Acting immediately is what lets us move onto drying out your home.

When the river in your city floods and causes damage to your home, do not pause. Phone SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090. Let us help you return your home to its pre-flood state.

Removing Flood Damage in Ortega

2/28/2018 (Permalink)

Floodwater is usually categorized as black water, being very contaminated and dangerous.

SERVPRO Categorizes Water in Your Home into Three Categories

Removing water from Ortega homes is, for the most part, a matter of time and having the right equipment at hand. If the water contains soil, sewage, or other debris, it is contaminated and can be both a greater expense and physical threat to the residents.

SERVPRO inspects and divides the water from Ortega flood damage into three types: Clean, Gray, and Black. Clean water is the simplest to remove, but the other two have specific requirements which may require specific precautions, tools, and protective gear.

Clean Water poses no real risk to personal health. Our response teams do not need any protective gear other than rubber boots to avoid getting their feet wet. To prevent mold or other contamination from forming in the water and turning it gray, we quickly remove it from each home.

Teams can do this by setting up pumps to drain the majority of the water and then switch to extraction wands to remove surface moisture and draw remaining water out of carpets and floorboards. Removing it quickly also lowers the risk of damage to drywall and other building materials. If the air is very humid, we can establish dehumidifiers to bring it down to normal levels.

Gray Water contains very low levels of contamination. Common sources are bathroom water, urine, and water from aquariums. These contaminants also cause bacteria to form and grow across the surface of the water quickly. Eventually, the bacteria grows large enough to become airborne and spread to uncontaminated areas of the home. Before starting any removal work, SERVPRO technicians spray the water and any nearby surfaces with an anti-fungal agent to kill any active mold spores.

Black Water is heavily contaminated. Much of the stormwater that gets inside a home contains a little bit of everything that it moved over before stopping. That means raw sewage and even animal carcasses depending on the severity of the flood. Water from a nearby hospital may also contain traces of medical waste.

To stop the threat of health effects, technicians put on protective gear to include masks and spray an anti-fungal agent over everything that they may touch. We pump the contaminated water into a tank truck for transportation to a water treatment plant for disposal.

Rain is in the near forecast, so if you are dealing with previous flood damage, now is the time to contact SERVPRO of Stockton. Call us at (209) 477-3090 today with any questions or to schedule a team visit.

Sump Pump Failure Can Result In Flood Damage To Your Stockton Home

2/14/2018 (Permalink)

Sump Pumps Help Stockton Properties Mitigate Storm Damage--SERVPRO Tip

Stockton Structures Under Water from Storms--Call SERVPRO

Stockton has a rich history, but with this age comes the understanding that many homes have gotten constructed well before modern implements to divert water. While there is certain equipment that can get installed into your home to help contend with water that works its way in (sump pumps being a good example), these are not cure-alls to the problem that exists by any stretch of the imagination.

Many people who have equipment like sump pumps installed in their homes understand that if this equipment were to fail one day, the result could be a significant water emergency. Without other means of water diversion like functioning French drains or adequately applied waterproofing to the exterior of your foundation, you can be dealing with flood damage to your Stockton home if equipment like your sump pump fails and severe weather strikes.

The unfortunate truth about machinery and equipment like this is that it is not designed to work forever. In fact, even the best pumps are only rated to get used for a specific number of years before they require replacement. When they officially malfunction or quit altogether, the resulting water damage to your lower levels can become catastrophic. Our SERVPRO team can respond quickly in an emergency situation like this and work to keep the damage from getting worse.

With any flooding event to your home, regardless of the cause, our restoration process remains the same. We begin with extracting the present water from the affected area. With substantial volumes, a truck-mounted pump from our fleet often gets dispatched to the site. Once the standing water gets removed, drying efforts with air movers and dehumidification equipment can begin. Other crew members may simultaneously be relocating personal belongings and furnishings to dry regions of the home if there are any.

An overall assessment can get done by our SERVPRO restoration specialists to determine the cause of the flooding and offer solutions to prevent it from reoccurring. While the construction of your home decades ago might have left you without modern water diversion devices, there are still ways to seal up weakened areas to prevent unabated water penetration.

When you encounter flood damage to your home, it is often something best left to professional restoration specialists like ours. We can ensure that all of the water gets successfully extracted so that there are no lingering effects for you or your family. You can reach our SERVPRO of Stockton emergency response team anytime at (209) 477-3090.

Flood Damages from Trees Too Close to Ortega Homes

12/14/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO suggests keeping an eye on trees near your home for broken branches or dead limbs and take care of them before they damage your home.

SERVPRO Offers Flood Damage Restoration Services for Any Size Disaster

While you often think of trees as permanent fixtures in your property’s landscape, their presence can also be an impending threat to your home if they die or become damaged during a storm. Subsequent hard storms could cause the tree to lose its limbs, or fall over entirely into your home. Ortega homes are at risk for those not paying close attention to damaged trees within striking distance of their residences.

This reality, of course, does not imply that you can prevent possible flood damage to your Ortega home by removing all of the trees on your property, but it does warrant pause for inspection given what could happen when a tree decides to fall apart. If you have ever attempted to pick up a full branch of a tree on your own, you immediately remember the excessive weight and size. Now imagine the damage that a falling branch like this could do to the siding or roof of your home if it were to fall off unexpectedly.

Our SERVPRO team has seen significant storm damages which have taken down both branches and trees alike. The resulting damage is often gaping holes through the siding and walls of your home, broken windows, or holes in your roof. Any one of these conditions could allow high volumes of torrential rainfall into your house, which is often far too complicated to stop on your own.

Damage assessment is one of the preliminary steps that our SERVPRO professionals take. This assessment allows our team to map out entire restoration plans based on not only preparing your home for possible reconstruction efforts but also to get any water-damaged areas of your house restored promptly. This process is often done in conjunction with your insurance company to hasten the restoration process and keep your out-of-pocket expenses in the process to a minimum.

Tree damage is often a significant culprit to water and flood damages to homes throughout Ortega. Inspect the trees and be on the lookout for dead limbs to remove them before they remove themselves at a costly expense to your home. For help cleaning up the mess quickly and efficiently, do not hesitate to give SERVPRO of Stockton a call. We can be reached 24/7 at (209) 477-3090.

Deodorizing After a Flood Damage: How is it Done?

11/13/2017 (Permalink)

Fast Removal needed to Mitigate Odors and Other Damages caused by flooding.

A Hidden Adverse Effect from Flooding--Odors

Dealing with the aftermath of flood damage due to a storm can be an uphill battle for any homeowner. The flood water often seeps into the structural cavities and creates a damp atmosphere. Not only does this pose a threat to the structural integrity of your home, it usually causes an odor problem. If not appropriately deodorized, this foul smell can linger on in your Ortega home long after the flooding.

Thankfully, here at SERVPRO, we use a multi-method approach to eliminate odors after a flood damage to your Ortega property. Our IICRC certified professionals use various modern equipment to eliminate odors due to flood damage in no time. Here are some of the deodorizing techniques used to ensure elimination of odors after a flood.

Direct spraying: As the name implies, a deodorant is sprayed directly on the affected area using a pump. The method is useful if the intensity of the smell is not very high and the affected area is small.

Wet fogging: This method utilizes Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Foggers to dispense water or solvent-based deodorants. The ULV fogger generates minute particles of the chemicals that penetrate to the areas where the odor causing particles hide and change the composition of these substances.

Thermal fogging: The technique involves using heat to break up solvent-based deodorants into small particles that can reach the difficult to reach places. The deodorizing particles neutralize the odor-causing molecules right at the source. Although this method is most popular to deodorize after a smoke damage, it is sometimes used in case of flood damage as well.

Venting box fans: These are high-velocity axial fans that are used to ventilate and improve air circulation. These are used both before and after the deodorizing process. They can significantly shorten the time to deodorize and remove moisture at the same time.

Air Scrubbers: These devices are sophisticated air filters that use High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration technology. The air scrubbers can capture and eliminate odor-causing particles as small as 0.3 micrometers with an efficiency of 99.97%!

Getting rid of the stale, clammy odor can be a difficult thing to do after a flood damage. Professionals at SERVPRO can help you eliminate them in no time and get your home smelling like home again! "Like it never even happened."

Saving Your Home and Contents from Flood Damage in Ortega

10/20/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO's IICRC-certified technicians act quickly to restore your home and make it "Like it never even happened."

Allow SERVPRO to Quickly and Thoroughly Restore Your Home After Flood Damage

Flooding rarely happens in our area, but with changing weather patterns and other environmental changes, homes in Ortega may begin experiencing such problems. New construction in the area can change how water on the surface of the ground travels, also.

Homeowners in Ortega with flood damage often find that the water carries in unexpected debris such as garbage and plant matter. After pumping out the water, we remove these items and bag them for disposal. Sanitizing your home and cleaning it includes disposing of any food items that came into contact with water from the flood.

We clean all surfaces with an appropriate disinfectant. As for surfaces which absorb water, such as drywall and upholstered furniture, we gently dry these items and then clean them. After upholstery dries, brushing with a super-soft brush finishes the item so you can use it as you did before the flood event. We clean wood components of furniture pieces to prevent drying out of varnishes and spreading of general contamination.

Carpeting may, depending on the type, become so damaged that salvaging it becomes a futile task. We remove the carpeting inside flooded homes so the floors can become dry. New carpeting and padding must wait until the floors become completely dry again. Installing carpeting before attaining complete dryness can result in microbial growth, a continuation of bad odors, and an inability of the padding to adhere correctly. Padding, as a composite product, almost always fails and a replacement pad becomes necessary. We handle both carpet and pad during removal, meaning we can set up our drying machinery even sooner.

Your local SERVPRO professionals can quickly restore even the messiest flooding in your home. Fully trained with certifications from the IICRC, we know that an immediate response can help save many of your belongings, reduce the overall damage to your home, decrease the amount of work your home requires, and keep the costs involved reasonable.

SERVPRO of Stockton has your local restoration professionals, and we offer 24-hour services. You can call us at any time by dialing (209) 477-3090. We are ready whenever you need us.

El Nino

8/8/2017 (Permalink)

In 1997 an El Nino year was declared and the rain and windstorms were record setting. 2015 and part of 2016 have been named El Nino years. Will Northern California be rainy? How will things be in Stockton?

With weather we never really know. Looking over the past 15 El Nino events going back to 1949 only three have had heavy rain. El Nino is a warming of the South Pacific sea currents. These currents travel up the western coasts of South and North America all the way to Alaska. The fact that there is an El Nino doesn’t mean that we will have rain. However, there are other specific indicators that warn that this could be a heavy rain year.

1n 1997 there was a large beaching of crabs and other small sea creatures on the shorelines of Southern California. That heavy rain year also produce a large Algae bloom in the North Pacific. While there is always a summertime Algae bloom it was heavier than usual in 1997. This year it is even larger than in the past! Arizona monsoon rains were epic in 1997. This Monsoon season, it began raining in Arizona in August and has continued so far to September. The pattern seems to be repeating. The indicators are this may be a potentially heavy El Nino rain year.

Stockton experienced significant rain and flood damage in 1997 and could be in for the same this year. SERVPRO of Stockton is conducting anEl Nino Preparation Workshopin October. The date and time will be introduced soon.

You can count on SERVPRO of Stockton to serve Stockton and Central Valley with water damage restoration 24/7 in the event of El Nino rains in conjunction with our other flood cleanup duties.

Tornado Near Stockton?

8/7/2017 (Permalink)

Tornado touches down in Denair.

SERVPRO of Stockton: At The Ready for Storm Damage and Tornadoes in Denair

Waterspouts are spotted every once-in-a-while along California’s beaches, but tornadoes are rare anywhere.  SERVPRO of Stockton Sales and Customer Service Representative, Jackie Irrgang, took the photo of the little shed that survived a twister that happened in 2015. The damaged structure was in the town of Denair.

On the very same morning that Jackie snapped her picture of the Denair tornado damage I was on my way to an appointment at the Port of Stockton. The sky grew unusually dark similar to an eclipse.  The atmosphere seemed dense, ominous.

I often travel with my 35MM digital camera and photo gear. I pulled to the side of the road to document the unusual weather conditions around the Port of Stockton industrial area. The photograph of the water tank was taken with a slow shutter speed and the color filter on. For those who are not photo-geeks, the available sunlight was diminished causing the image to look like a black and white photograph. It was as if a special effects artist had created a scene for a horror film. Photo copyright – Clayton A. Barry

I didn’t see a twister while I was standing at the side of the road with my camera and tripod. However, I left the car running, the door open and the radio on. I heard radio news alerts about Central Valley residents sighting funnel clouds. Then the reports stated, “It touched down in at least two places, damaging a barn in Denair and wooden fencings elsewhere.”

People in the American South and Midwest may giggle about this tiny tornado event. I understand. My point in mentioning it is to make a comment on the unpredictable power and scope of nature. With our present expanded understating and observations of climate change and weather restoration business owners need to step out of their comfort zones. Today ice storms, hail, wind damage, draught, and flooding can occur in all the usual places and all the unusual places. Who would think that large metropolitan cities in the Southern U.S. could be immobilized by ice and snow? Who would expect large-scale flooding because snow packs in nearby mountains melt suddenly, weeks ahead of the usual melting pattern?

I remember the earthquake of 1989 in Northern California. What I remember too was that an earthquake rattled Manhattan just a couple of weeks later and how surprised the New Yorkers were. They didn’t think it could happen there.

Owners of disaster restoration companies such as SERVPRO of Stockton need to be aware that unexpected events may happen in our own community. It’s always the right time to be prepared to respond to the “regular” disasters that occur in our locale, we should also be prepared to respond to the unusual?  We are!

The days are gone when anyone can say, “Oh, that doesn’t happen here.” When you are dealing with a tornado, water, flood or storm damage in Denair, Stockton, Oakdale, or other local communities, a quick response to minimize the damage is very important. SERVPRO of Stockton can respond immediately to storm and flooding conditions. Call us 24/7 at 209-477-3090

Why Choose SERVPRO of Stockton?

Because We're Faster to Any Size Disaster

Freezing Damage

6/1/2017 (Permalink)

Ice storm damage.

Ice storms bring devastation to southern states that are not prepared for freezing weather. In many regions the urban areas  don't have snow or ice removal equipment to clear streets and bridges. The public is unfamiliar with the driving hazards poses by icy streets. Property damage from freezing can be extreme. Pipe insulation and the placement of pipes is not prepared to ward off deep freezing.

This photo shows the frozen water flow inside a garage. It became "a mini indoor skating rink."

Earlier this year, SERVPRO of Stockton's "storm team" traveled to ice storm events in Kentucky and Georgia. We have also handled freezing events closer to home in Napa and the Serra foothills.

With climate change happening, we feel it is valuable for out crews to gain all sorts of experience in cleaning up weather related damage.

Preparing for a Storm

SERVPRO technician cleaning out a sump pump under an apartment building.

A property management client takes care of an apartment complex that has a building with a crawlspace that is subject to periodic flooding, especially when the ground water supply is charged from rains.

One of our SERVPRO customer service representatives in Stockton suggested that the sump pump under this building be inspected. Debris was discovered in the sump pump well.  One of our technicians was dispatched to flush and vacuum the sump pump well and then test the pump for serviceability. He got it working.

SERVPRO offers not only tips about maintaining properties to prevent potential damage, we offer an Emergency Ready Plan to help companies prepare for and recover from disasters. If you are interested in tips, ideas and an Emergency Ready plan (free of charge) please contact us a t 209-477-3090.

Climate Change in Full Force.

5/26/2017 (Permalink)

Storm team scoping a job.

Climate change is without a question in full force. 2016 was an El Nino year. Northern California saw increased rain that ended our five-year draught. However, other than a few isolated locations, our region escaped the mega damage we could have experienced. (We did come close to a major dam failure that would have impacted hundreds of thousands of people.)

2017 has all the indicators of being another El Nino year and it is also is shaping up to be a heavy hurricane season as well. The Eastern seaboard and Gulf on Mexico could be impacted. To be classified as a hurricane, a tropical cyclone must have maximum sustained winds of at least 74 mph (Category 1). The highest classification in the scale, Category 5, is reserved for storms with winds exceeding 156 mph.

SERVPRO of Stockton is prepared to help any property owner who experiences storm damage here in Northern California, and we are ready to travel to other parts of the country to help with their local storm damage. In the past we have performed Hurricane cleanup on the east coast and are prepared to do so again this year if need be.

Moisture Barrier Protection

5/23/2017 (Permalink)

Installing a plastic moisture barrier.

During periods of heavy rain, ground water is replenished, causing underground streams and springs to flow again. (Many underground water sources dried up during the recent draught.)

One particular client owns and manages a commercial property in which a small channel of water flows through the crawlspace. Engineers determined that the flow of moisture does not pose a treat to the foundation or structure. Our company was hired to install a moisture barrier in the crawlspace. A plastic barrier was installed above the ground surface, which prevents humidity and odor from the ground water in the damp soil from affecting the crawlspace.

During heavy rains the water flows through the crawlspace at an increased rate, but the plastic barrier keeps the moisture contained.

SERVPRO of Stockton provides moisture barrier installation to protect residential, commercial and industrial properties. We also perform HVAC cleaning and other environmental cleaning to protect indoor air quality.
