Causes Of Fire In A Commercial Building

SERVPRO® has the specialized fire restoration training needed to restore your home to pre-fire condition.
Causes Of Fire In A Commercial Building
Fires constitute a major concern and may result in the loss of property, productive time, and even the risk of life. The most prevalent causes of fire in commercial buildings are well-known to the public. However, there are other, less prevalent causes of commercial fires for which company owners and residents should exercise caution. Here are a few causes of fire in a commercial building.
Use of cleaning agents, including solutions and other compounds
Following the directions on how to store cleaning products properly is essential. Make sure you're acquainted with them, particularly when it comes to the utility room or if you're keeping chemicals beneath the sink. Certain chemicals may start a fire if combined or heated up from being improperly stored.
Animals
Animals may have a role in some of the strangest fire starts. Consider the following:
- A bird may choose to make its nest near electrical wires or on top of buildings that may get hot.
- Mice may gnaw through electrical lines, resulting in a fire outbreak.
Dust
It's no secret that we despise dust, but now we have even more reason to get out the vacuum cleaner. Almost every sort of dust has the potential to catch fire. It is possible for materials that are not easily ignited to provide a fire danger when they are in the form of dust.
Computer and Laptop Overheating
Computer and laptop fires may be rare, but they do happen. Fans or batteries that fail, worn-out connections and excessive temperatures are all possible causes of computer and laptop fires.
What to Do If Fire destroys a Commercial Building
Restoring a commercial building after a fire is out and everyone has been evacuated may be challenging. To help restore your fire-damaged property to its former glory, call on the experienced specialists at SERVPRO of Stockton (209) 477-3090.
Patching Drywall: A Guide

We offer all services needed to get your home or business constructed.
Patching Drywall: A Guide
A top concern when prepping for a move to new business location or home includes patching drywall. This material is extremely vulnerable to holes, cracks, and dents, but it can easily be repaired with painting, sanding, and joint compound.
Damage can occur from multiple reasons. Most damage to drywalls is observed in the form of popped nail heads, dents, and screw holes. These incidents are very minor and can be easily remedied.
Fill tiny holes and dents with lightweight spackle using a putty knife. Ensure the spackle fills the hole and is level with the rest of the wall that is undamaged. Allow it to try for up to 30 minutes. Use sandpaper to smoothen the area. Touch up the paint and brush away debris.
For cracks, widen it with the aid of a utility knife and ensure dust is brushed away. Apply a coat of spackle across the entire area, and smoothen with a putty knife. If wider than half an inch, cover with drywall tape composed of self-adhesive fiberglass. Allow the compound to dry thoroughly.
When dealing with popped nail heads, it's likely that they have loosened from wall studs. A simple drywall screw can reattach drywall to the stud. Drive the screw in about 2 inches above the location of the popped head. Sink the head just below the surface of the drywall. Hammer the head back in, being mindful of unwanted hammer damage. Cover with a spackle, allow it to try, then touch up the paint. This works in all cases.

What To Do If Your Sink Gets Clogged At Your Business

SERVPRO® helps commercial customers with a wide variety of cleaning, construction and restoration projects, both large and small.
What To Do If Your Sink Gets Clogged At Your Business
If your sink is draining slowly or not at all, producing an odor, there may be a clog. It is critical to take care of these as soon as possible. In the event that a blockage is allowed to accumulate, it can result in burst pipes and a need to reach out to a professional plumber.
Prior to unclogging a sink with water, use a basin or cup to remove the standing water. Always attempt to plunge the water first. Small clogs are often easily dislodged with the standard cup plunger. It's recommended to try using one with a flat rim that creates a seal over the hole to apply the pressure necessary to dislodge it.
Ensure that the sink contains the right amount of water to submerge the plunger's head.
Another way to solve the issue can involve taking a half-gallon of water and bringing it to a boil with heat. After taking measures to remove the sink's standing water, pour the boiling water directly towards the drain with the aid of a steady stream. It should start to drain. If it fails, let the water cool completely, then repeat an additional time.
Baking soda mixtures offer a natural way to unclog a sink, as it proves gentle on the pipes in comparison to chemical openers. Pour a single cup of baking soda down the drain in addition to white vinegar of the same amount. Place a sink hole cover or rubber stop over the opening. Wait 15 minutes, then remove the cover and run water down to clear out the clog. If these solutions do not work , SERVPRO will be there to help find the solution.

Flood Prevention in a Natural Disaster

Flood Prevention in a Natural Disaster
Flood Prevention in a Natural Disaster
If you’ve gone out of your way to prevent water damage from happening in your business, but the weather is calling for a flood watch or warning in your area, then it may be time to do more than simply make sure that your flood sensors are working properly.
What to do before a flood
There are certain steps you can take to reduce the amount of water that makes it into your business. These steps include:
- Using sandbags outside of doors to prevent water coming inside
- Tying down or moving outdoor furniture inside so that it doesn’t break windows or float away
- If evacuation seems imminent, turn off all utilities at the main power switch and close the main gas valve so that issues don’t get worse
Of course, make sure that you gather emergency supplies, like flashlights, batteries, extra clothes and such before flooding becomes a problem. Additionally, make sure you have a battery-operated radio where you can listen for updates even if you lose power. Keep a copy of your vital records in a waterproof container that is with your emergency kit so that you have them with you in case of emergency.
If flooding happens, remember to turn around and don’t drown, don’t swim through flood waters, since there is a lot of debris in it that can cause injury, and when water starts coming into your home, if you are unable to leave, move up to the roof instead of the attic, for rescue. You don’t want to get trapped.
SERVPRO of Stockton has the training, experience, and equipment to handle large commercial flooding or water damage emergencies. Call us at (209) 477-3090.
Professional Restoration can Undo Flood Damage to Your Ortega Party Goods Store
8/27/2021 (Permalink)
Did your store suffer from recent flooding? Team SERVPRO can help with water removal and other flood damage remediation services. Call right away.
SERVPRO Technicians Tackle Floodwaters Quickly After a Situation at a Local Store
A festive atmosphere in a clean, dry environment helps put shoppers in the mood for increased 'what ifs?' and boosts their creativity when planning a party at their Ortega home. People skip the items covered in dust or sporting faded labels even when browsing in the bargain bin or aisle. Finding a good deal still does not include paying for something deemed 'below-par.'
When the weather changes in the surrounding area, flood damage in Ortega can happen quickly. As water from the street slowly rises, covering your parking lot and then seeping under your door, flooding begins to damage everything that becomes wet. Any recent construction near your shop can worsen the effects as it can change the path of rainwater, creating a mini-flood that can cause significant damage.
Cleaning Debris After Flood Damage
Floodwater can also sweep oil and other vehicular fluids left behind by cars' and trucks' leaking motors into your store. This type of contamination can ruin carpets and severely damage other types of flooring. Our employees receive intensive training that prepares them for handling any degree and high complexity of flood damage. Without these skills and on-the-job experiences, restoring your business setting becomes next to impossible.
Flooding creates extensive and complex types of problems. Placing inventory higher than usual can protect it significantly from direct contact with the floodwater. However, the greater humidity caused by standing water and its evaporation can later damage your more delicate stock. Because this takes very little time to happen, we need to begin our work as soon as possible.
Flooding creates the risks of contamination, as well as damage. We remove the solid debris from silt and soil from the street, in addition to the water. After drying everything, we can then begin detailing and cleaning procedures. This cleaning includes sanitizing surfaces and items throughout the store.
Saving the carpet is usually impossible because of the contamination involved, but sometimes the latest advances in technology allow for successful restoration. Carpeting can hold significant amounts of water and significantly alter the indoor humidity, so knowing the future of carpeting can help determine the best drying procedures. Open windows or heaters with dehumidifiers, large air blowers, and air scrubbers reduce the humidity back to normal levels.
Flooding can affect your store in negative ways for months to come, but a solid response to this kind of tragedy can help your business reopen and continue thriving. You can call (209) 477-3090 to reach the friendly professional restorers of SERVPRO of Stockton. We know your business is essential to our economic success, and we want to see you succeed.

SERVPROs commercial damage restoration services are top-notch. We use the latest technology and equipment for every job.
Clearing Surface Water and Debris After Ceiling Leaks in Stockton Offices Involve Many Steps.
Emergency services are a critical element to the overall restoration process we provide. The experience of our SERVPRO team and accreditations through respected and known firms like the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) make us a strong choice when commercial properties suffer water damage.
Clearing Bulk Materials and Debris
Before water damage restoration in Stockton businesses can get underway, experienced professionals like our SERVPRO production manager must evaluate the current conditions. This inspection finds the need for debris removal and any bulk materials that might need to be cleared and discarded. Ceiling leaks are notorious for overwhelming ceiling tile in office spaces, which can collapse and require cleanup along with standing water.
Removing Trapped Water from Carpeting
Short pile carpeting and glue-down flooring is a common construction staple in commercial properties. The combination of multiple extraction units can eliminate trapped water into this thin, fibrous layer. Trapped moisture in this flooring can get collected and discarded using specific extraction and drying devices, such as:
- Weighted Extractors
- Carpet Wands
- Wet Vacuums
Water Damage Repairs to Get Your Business Going Again
While parts of the ceiling might collapse under the weight of water after flood or leak damage, repairs can often help put the final touches on getting the office space back up and running at full capacity. With a general contractor license, our SERVPRO team can provide a full-service solution following water damage.
Because a ceiling leak can stop your production and business in a local office building, it is vital for our SERVPRO of Stockton team to move quickly to begin mitigation and cleanup. With experienced and accredited professionals for water restoration, we are ready to help at (209) 477-3090.

Established by Captain Charles Maria Weber, the city of Stockton is in the Central Valley of California. The city is also the county seat of San Joaquin County. In 1849, Captain Charles founded the city after acquiring Rancho Campo de Los Franceses.
Named after Robert F. Stockton, the city was the first community to have a name that is not of Native American or Spanish origin. In 2019, the California Department of Finance stated that the city had an estimated population of about 312,697 people. Stockton ranks 62nd among the largest cities in the U.S.A and is the 13th largest city in California. The city of Stockton was built during the era of the California Gold Rush between 1848 and 1855. The city’s seaport is the gateway to other cities and regions, including the Central Valley. The southern gold mines used the seaport to trade and transport products to other areas.
The (UOP) University of the Pacific is the oldest in California. It was chartered in 1851 and has been in the city of Stockton since 1923. The city filed the largest municipal bankruptcy, which included several causes such as:
- The 1990 financial mismanagement
- The 2008 financial crisis
- Generous fringe benefits to city staff
The city’s history
Before the Europeans visited and settled in the area, a branch of Yokuts Indians of the Northern Valley known as Yatchicumne occupied the region. The Yatchicumne developed villages on low mounds to be safe from regular floods. One of the villages named Pasasimas was between Edison and Harrison Streets.
The Miwok Indians navigated and fished the waterways in and around the city. The San Joaquin River was navigable during the California Gold Rush by ocean-going vessels. That turned the town into:
- A departure point for gold-miners
- A natural inland seaport
- Point of supply
The home of arts and culture
The city hosts several museums, including:
Haggin Museum: Built-in 1931 at victory Park, the museum is a private and non-profit art and history institution. It features exhibits and collections of local Valley history as well as California history.
Stockton children’s museum: The institution is housed in the Downtown Waterfront District in a former warehouse. It features several interactive displays.

When water seeps on various surfaces of your Stockton hotel, it can lead to mold issues and odors. Also, it can cause other problems like biohazards or fire when it seeps into electrical sources. Contacting SERVPRO technicians is the best decision to minimize the cost of repairing the damage and get your hotel back to its pre-damaged state.
When should hotel owners call the restorers?
Contact our certified technicians immediately you notice water intrusion in your hotel. Our response team is ready to offer commercial water damage restoration in affected Stockton hotels around the clock. We respond fast since we are aware of the damage that water leaves behind in a short period. When we get to your hotel, our team can assess the damage and meet with appropriate hotel officers. We can discuss the restoration plan with you and agree on what we need to do first.
If the water intrusion incident is extensive, we can send a larger crew with adequate specialized equipment. Our team understands the urgency of dealing with water damage before it causes a significant business interruption. Our team can restore the damaged areas in a way that does not affect your hotel's daily operations.
What are some of the critical water damage safety tips?
• Water can contain contaminants. If your employees have to contact the water, ensure they have the right protective equipment.
• Move or protect all valuable contents like artwork, documents, files, furniture, clothing, and electronic equipment from the affected areas to prevent additional damage.
• Isolate or contain the affected areas to protect staff. You can create a plastic barrier around the contaminated area's perimeter and use caution tape to cord it off.
Does the drying process take long?
SERVPRO technicians have advanced drying equipment that hastens the drying process. We can use light wands to extract excess water from the glue-down carpet. • Centrifugal air movers
• Desiccant dehumidifiers
• Structural cavity drying equipment
Our crew can also use an indirect fired furnace, which uses a heat exchanger to heat the area. It takes dry outdoor air, heats it, and introduces it into the affected area. The heated air in the structure takes the evaporated water from wet materials raising the humidity ratio.

Avoid the Stress and Disruption of Hiring Different Contractors to Manage the Many Phases of Fire Damage Restoration in Stockton Commercial Building-- SERVPRO Can Take on All Aspects from Assessment to Build Back
A fire on your commercial property is one of the most disruptive events that can happen at your Stockton business. Because most fire scenes also present significant issues with water incursion and damage from the efforts to quell the blaze, the circumstance can be quite complex. Knowing you can face an incredibly complicated scenario after an accident, negligence, natural disaster, or as a result of aging or poorly installed or aging utilities should give most business owners pause. Use this epiphany to do some planning rather than panicking if the worst does happen.
What Are Options for a Business to Prepare for Fire Damage?
A practical step to guard against substantial upheaval in your operations if you need fire damage restoration in Stockton is to consider developing an Emergency READY Profile and Plan (ERP). We send an experienced commercial disaster project manager to evaluate your physical space, equipment and operations, and your questions and concerns. Our goal is to create a concise yet complete digital file to guide our crews if a fire emergency occurs. The data in the file might include:
• An actual blueprint or at least a detailed sketch of your commercial layout -- plus pictures
• Marked locations of utility shut-offs
• Locations of any sprinkler system
• Descriptions of the supplies, documents, raw materials, inventory, and more found in various spaces
• Positioning of production and other equipment
• Staff locker rooms, restrooms, breakrooms, kitchens or food prep areas, and other spaces where water and fire damage might occur “off the production grid”
• Records of our conversations about priorities, previous fire issues, questions, and concerns
You have the opportunity to use our mobile app to include more details that could prove useful:
• Designating SERVPRO as your preferred restorations company
• Contact information for vendors and contractors that sold, installed, or designed equipment and systems
• Listing employees or other individuals who can take action on your behalf should you be out of town or unavailable during the crisis or restoration for another reason
How Does Hiring a Fire Damage Restoration Company that Also Has a General Contractor’s License Improve Outcomes?
Your SERVPRO has a general contractor’s license, which offers a comprehensive array of restoration preparation and completion services.
Hazard Assessment and Safety Controls
When we arrive at your commercial building, we can obtain real-time assistance during hazard assessments and during the implementation of controls that help mitigate further damage to structures while keeping both occupants and work crews safe:
• Evaluating structural damage from heat, flames, and firefighting water
• Collaborating to design and build supports and workarounds that enhance workspace safety
• Assisting to remove unrestorable materials while maintaining structural integrity
• Planning and implementing controlled demolition to release firefighting water and prepare spaces for further remediation and restoration work
Water Removal, Cleanup, and Deodorization
Once the structure is stabilized, the SERVPRO project manager begins assigning portions of the job to workers on site. Expect at least the following; some jobs might require more:
• Moving of furnishings, equipment, documents, and other contents to a safe, dry space either in another, unaffected area of your property or at the SERVPRO production facility for processing
• Water containment and removal, with disposal determined by local regulations concerning hazardous waste
• Applied structural drying
• Debris collection and removal, again following local rules for disposal
• Assessment of residues and surfaces involved to match proprietary cleaning products, tools, equipment, and methods to the specific types of soot and damaged/dirty materials
• Implementation of cleaning after the above matching procedure
• Disinfection of affected spaces using EPA-registered antimicrobials (especially important in wet areas)
• Deodorization assessment after debris removal and deep cleaning, followed by needed odor elimination techniques including the use of
• Ozone machines
• Hydroxyl generators
• Wet and thermal fogging technology
Repairs, Replacement, and Build Backs
The general contractor license SERVPRO holds permits, an integrated agenda of fire damage mitigation, remediation, restoration, and reconstruction phases. As we orchestrate this all under one management, we can work on phases of the overall project concurrently. Delays due to the unreasonable expectation that a second or third contractor can drop their other jobs and come to work at your commercial property are eliminated. Our management staff follows each project and is ready to schedule the next phase, steps, or tasks as anticipated.
Build a long-term and mutually advantageous partnership between your business and SERVPRO of Stockton for all your fire damage restoration and other disaster needs. Call us at your convenience at (209) 477-3090 to schedule an ERP assessment, and around the clock when an emergency strikes.

SERVPRO Can Scope Your Diner and Remediate Smoke Damage in Most Cases.
Who doesn’t love old fashion diner meals? Stockton residents sure do. From the Black Bear Diner to the Old Town Diner, you can find something to please every palate. But a kitchen fire can put everyone’s favorite restaurant out of business for an unknown period.
Can the Vinyl Covering on My Booths be Cleaned?
A kitchen fire is always a risk in any eatery. Thankfully in commercial buildings, they are usually contained relatively quickly. But that doesn’t prevent smoke and soot from spreading throughout the restaurant. You have put a lot into maintaining the fun retro look of your diner, and you don’t want to give that up if you don’t have too. SERVPRO can provide fire damage services in Stockton that can leave your diner, “Like it never even happened.” In most cases, we can restore your retro booths. There are several components to these booths, including:
- Vinyl booth covering – Wet chemicals can be used to clean the booth seating area as vinyl resists water. Our technicians use a specialized chemical to clean this kind of surface.
- Formica tabletops – Formica countertops and tabletops can be wiped off with dry cleaners and wet ones if the damage is severe enough.
- Metal fixtures – wet cleaning is often recommended for metal.
Kitchen Fires are Unique
There are several types of smoke residue. When there is a kitchen fire, it usually involves food and grease, and the result is protein residue. This can be challenging to mitigate, but our technicians are trained to examine the smoke film to determine precisely what restoration steps are needed. The key is immediate fire damage mitigation. Your diner content such as your dishes, shelving, stove, and countertops get covered in soot fast. If left sit for very long, some discoloration can occur.
If you need fire damage restoration for your business, contact SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

What Can I Expect from Professional Water Removal in My Stockton Retail Store?

Leaking water could cause slips and falls in your store and this could lead to more trouble for you and your store. Contact SERVPRO today.
Count on Clear Communication and Diligent Work from the Stockton SERVPRO Team When You Need Safe and Efficient Water Removal Services at Your Retail Establishment
Most everyone has experienced a minor water issue and come out the other side a little wetter but wiser. But when a supply pipe for an entire strip mall ruptures in the hallway outside of your Stockton shop, you have a severe water catastrophe on your hands. A few towels and some grunt work with a bucket and mop cannot make thousands of gallons of water disappear. You need help from a local company with scalable water removal resources.
Where Do I Even Start When My Whole Store Is Nearly Underwater?
Start by calling a reputable water removal service to facilitate water removal from your Stockton retail store. A water crisis of this severity needs professional inspection and intervention. The sooner you welcome trained and well-equipped technicians to your shop, the better for the most successful outcome. The quantity of water involved is considerable, and you need commercial-grade equipment along with the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained operators. Building management or cleaning crews you regularly contract with will be overwhelmed with the damage and cannot help avert the severity of the potential long-term damage.
What Do Professionals Need to Inspect? The Water Is Everywhere And Obvious to Anyone--What Needs Assessment?
The first phase and following stages of a commercial water removal project are laid out for our IICRC-trained SERVPRO team as follows:
- Provide for the health and safety of technicians and occupants
- Document conditions and work procedures
- Mitigation
- Drying
- Cleaning and repair
Ensuring the safety of property occupants and technicians is essential. The time we take to note the conditions and plan the project is time well spent. It holds you, your employees, and your customers safe and ensures we prepare for every contingency, removing water in all its forms wherever it migrates. Leaving any water behind exposes your store and its contents to progressive deterioration and the risk of secondary damage such as mold growth?
What Things Do Professionals Seek to Identify in a Safety Assessment?
Water, especially standing or moving water contained in your store’s space after a massive pipe rupture presents many dangers. Professionals are vigilant not only for the inconveniences and disruption water removal in your retail store can cause but also against risks that can injure individuals or are even deadly:
- Water can cause slip, trip, and fall incidents
- Water collected in confined spaces and hidden recesses must be removed, but the effort can be dangerous and precise planning can avert harm
- Water increases the conductivity of electricity and can shock or even electrocute
- Water breaks down highly permeable materials, and that disintegration can expose biohazards such as asbestos and lead
- Water, even if it starts as relatively clean, picks up and supports the multiplication of contaminants over time, including molds and pathogens
- Water collects in building cavities, eventually causing a structural collapse that can cause injury and destroy contents
How Do Disaster Company Crews Control the Safety Issues Posed by Water Damage in a Commercial Space?
Our capacity to meet your retail water removal needs is scalable. As we work through the initial plan, adaptations make it move responsive to your situation. We use commercial grade water removal equipment, positioning submersible pumps at the onset. We have multiple truck-mounted extractors available, each able to lift and move 36,000 gallons of water a day. Removal also requires:
- Scoping for trapped water with infrared imaging, moisture detectors, and moisture meters
- Careful removal of the hidden fluids to avoid structural collapse and ensure no moisture remains, which can involve controlled demolition:
- Holes drilled or cut in drywall or mortar joints (cinder block construction) to release fluids
- Weep holes punched in bulging paint or wallpaper, or ceiling tiles before their removal
- Flood cuts made parallel to the floor and several inches above the waterline
Note: the above controlled demolition aids in effective drying as well
- Containment of contaminated water and disposal as required by local laws
- Cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces with EPA-registered products
- Drying of excess moisture-containing spaces, including confined cavities, using scalable numbers of:
- Air movers
- Heaters
- Dehumidifiers -- evaporative or desiccant types, or both
If the Water Removal Efforts Alters Structures, Who Can Repair the Damage?
Our construction division helps perform the controlled demolition appropriately. We also have all the skills and tools to build back damaged materials “Like it never even happened.”
SERVPRO of Stockton is ready to assist commercial customers with water removal needs fast after catastrophic events. Please call us at (209) 477-3090 to schedule a prompt assessment and plan to get your store back to business.

How Do I Protect My Merchandise After A Water Leak At My Stockton Vintage Consignment Shop?

Don't let water distruct your treasures, let SERVPRO help.
SERVPRO Technicians Remove Merchandise to a Secure Offsite Storage Facility
A water leak can spell destruction for any business in Stockton. Not only do you have the unwanted expense of cleaning up the mess, but you may also face the loss of merchandise and not operating your business while you tend to the damage. The professionals at SERVPRO understand the importance of keeping your business running and are Faster To Any Size Disaster. Part of this is removing any affected merchandise to our offsite facility where technicians dry and clean your items before returning them to your store.
Why Does SERVPRO Take the Items Offsite?
Dealing with commercial water removal in Stockton means that your merchandise may be impacted. Luckily, your business sells vintage items that are not necessarily new with tags, so your things have a better chance of restoration over brand new items. Technicians can use specialized cleaning equipment and products to restore your items offsite. Having your valuable merchandise offsite also allows technicians to complete work on-site without worrying about further damage.
While My Merchandise is Offsite, What Do Technicians Do Onsite?
- They dry the interior of your business through the use of air movers and dehumidification equipment.
- They extract excess water with portable or truck-mounted extraction equipment.
- They work with your landlord to repair any structural damage in the walls, ceiling, or flooring.
If you are concerned about the security of your items, technicians keep items inventoried every step of the way from moving them out to moving them back in, ensuring their safe return. They also identify important rush items to get back to you as quickly as possible. Our goal is to restore your business to preloss condition as soon as possible.

Why Is Immediate Professional Response to Water Damage in My Business Property Important?
4/28/2020 (Permalink)
We understand the need for rapid response and restoration to minimize the loss of your business property. Call us right away we are available 24/7.
Your Local SERVPRO Commits to Prompt and Professional Water Loss Restoration for Our Stockton Businesses
No matter how water invaded your commercial property in Stockton, you have a very tight timeframe within which to respond. Failure to do so exposes not only your building but also your business to the risk of permanent destruction. The harm to your physical property can be mitigated and remediated, perhaps at a more considerable expense, after a delay. An overarching concern is that your company and brand can disappear if the recovery time is prolonged or postponed regardless of the hard work and capital you invested in building your business.
What Are Examples of Secondary Damage When Restoration Is Absent or Slowed?
If Stockton businesses suffering commercial water damage wait to seek assistance after a water emergency, a wide range of complications can begin to take hold. Even in circumstances where the water entering the building from the event is clean and designated as Category 1, the potential for contamination of the fluids is significant as the minutes, hours, and days pass. For example, if a supply line breaks and floods your warehouse with treated, potable water, within a short period, the dust, dirt, organisms, and contents now soaked or submerged mix in and leach into and begin to transform the fluids to Category 2 or 3. Secondary damage includes:
- The disintegration of structural components such as drywall, ceiling tiles, laminate flooring
- The weakening of supportive structural elements such as wood framing, struts, subfloors, metal fasteners, and more
- Acceleration of mold and mildew growth and resultant erosion of organic surfaces the fungal infestations both live on and consume
- The proliferation of other pathogens, particularly if the water fills trash or sharps containers in bathrooms, or if the flooding impairs the drainage of sewage or other waste
How Do You Select a Water Damage Restoration Firm that Can Handle a Significant Commercial Scenario?
SERVPRO stands out as a large water loss recovery industry leader in our region. Our managers and technicians responded when areas far from our community needed skilled and well-equipped crews because of storms and other natural disasters. We bring this ability to scale up our response to the vital and valued businesses in our neighborhoods, commerce centers, and industrial parks.
What Do You Look for in a Commercial Water Damage Restoration Company?
Is There a Dedicated Emergency Response Division?
A water emergency does not respect traditional business hours, bursting into a full-fledged catastrophe morning, noon, night, or the wee hours. Our team responds 24/7 and is well-qualified to commence emergency security and safety tasks and speedy water mitigation and remediation, rolling appropriate equipment off our fully-stocked service vehicles.
What Kind of Training Should I Expect the Workers to Have?
It is essential that the company you hire is licensed, insured, and certified to provide the water damage restoration services needed. Our employees complete rigorous coursework and follow up with periodic refreshers and advanced training from the
Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC), an international standard’s development organization.
What Are the Benefits of Hiring a Local Company?
A crucial part of any viable business plan is developing mindful collaborative partnerships with stable restoration service providers in the same community. A proven track record and genuine understanding of the challenges businesses face in an area earns our team the confidence of the region’s business leaders. What Are the Advantages of the Emergency READY Profile Plan (ERP)?
Work with our experienced project managers to develop an individualized Emergency READY Profile Plan (ERP) long before any water or other damage occurs. The ERP involves an in-depth assessment of the risks in your commercial building, resulting in a well-reasoned proactive protocol our crews follow if water damage strikes. We make recommendations that minimize exposure of your property to devastating damage when an emergency presents. You can use our mobile app to add details that help us understand your operations. You can designate our company as your chosen restoration firm, and appoint individuals to act on your behalf if you cannot be on-site when a crisis happens.

SERVPRO Uses Science to Dry Commercial Retail Stores in Stockton
3/3/2020 (Permalink)
Even the Stockton Police Know Who to Call for a Water Loss Cleanup--SERVPRO
Commercial Water Removal In Stockton Can Require Advanced Equipment Calculations
If a pipe breaks inside your furniture store in Stockton, the results could prove to be quite catastrophic. Once items inside your retail store get wet, commercial water removal must be conducted promptly so that secondary problems like elevated humidity levels or mold growth do not occur. When attempting to remove moisture from your wet building materials and contents, a professional company such as SERVPRO can set up industrially advanced drying equipment.
Commercial water removal In Stockton usually requires extracting the H2O while it is still liquid and then the setup of equipment to conduct applied structural drying or ASD. During ASD procedures, a combination of air movers and dehumidifiers get set up inside the affected rooms of your furniture store. The air movers are placed so that they hit wet walls at a 45-degree angle and create counterclockwise air circulation. The dehumidifiers then remove moisture from the air and dispense it in liquid form while providing warm, dry air to be used in the circulation created by the air movers. This warmer air is now circulating, further increasing the rate of evaporation to lower the overall drying time.
While all this setting up of drying equipment is ongoing, team members can also relocate furniture displays in the line of fire, so to speak. Our business is to keep you in business.
However, when setting up drying equipment, our SERVPRO technicians take calculations to make sure that they are using enough air movers and dehumidifiers. This is the science of Psychrometry. The ratio between the two pieces of equipment also matters. If there are not enough air movers, then the process can not take place as fast as it could because there is not enough air circulation. If there are not enough dehumidifiers, then humidity levels can rise too high and slow down the drying process as well as potentially cause secondary damage.
To figure out how many air movers to place, our SERVPRO crew starts by placing one in each of the affected rooms of your furniture store. Then, an air mover gets added for every 50-70 affected square feet of the wet floor in a room. We can also add an air mover for every 100-150 square feet of affected wet ceiling and wall areas above 2 feet, and for each wall inset and offset greater than 18 inches.
To calculate how many dehumidifiers we need, we take into consideration the nature of the environment and the capacity of the dehumidifiers. If there are a large number of porous items in your furniture store, then more dehumidification may be required. Dehumidifiers are classified by how much cubic feet of air they can condition per minute. Secondly, dehumidifiers are measured by the number of pints of liquid H2O removed in 24 hours under standard test conditions.
If you ever suffer major damage after a pipe break in your furniture store or other workplace, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 24/7.
More than One Way to Cleanup City Hall...

Water Fountain Overflow Damages Shopping Center In Stockton
3/2/2020 (Permalink)
Commercial Water Damage Restoration
Far-flung areas of larger shopping malls often contain plumbing fixtures. If malfunctions or even petty vandalism results in water damage, it can be some time before security staff appreciates the full extent of the problem. SERVPRO has the resources to respond to retail areas that are water damaged, and to investigate how the water invaded.
Maybe it was a fluke, or maybe a kids’ prank, but a water fountain down a service hallway above your shop ran all night. The drain plugged, and gallons dripped through the ceiling, causing water damage to your Stockton children’s shoe store. Our water removal and commercial drying team arrived up for the challenge.
The water left shelving, seating, carpeting, and the cashier station soaked, and display shoes ruined. SERVPRO has experience with this type of damage and our crew quickly get to work. Powerful water extractors pull moisture from the carpeting without stretching or tearing when done by a trained technician. The workers pull up an edge of the carpet and remove the padding, inexpensive to replace and difficult to dry. Air movers direct their flow over and under the carpeting, and dehumidifiers further dry the air.
Shelving wipes down without much permanent damage, although the drywall holding the brackets may need attention and selective replacement if there are areas where it crumbled under the strain of water soaked shoes. Although selling the shoes in the future as “new” is inadvisable, we use drying techniques to salvage as many of them as possible. They are matched with their mates from the unaffected back room and inventoried as we use desiccants and fans to dry them. We use extractors on the seating areas, disassembling them so the frames can be wiped down and padded areas dried along with the inventory.
The cash register needs assessment by an electronic specialist, which we arrange. Throughout the restoration process we are in touch with your insurer, the owner of the building, and their insurance carrier, as well. We discuss all decisions with you, including a speedy return to business as soon as the carpet is and seating can be rearranged. Businesses that close for any length of time during restoration risk a failure rate of up to 50 percent, and we do not want yours to be one of them.
If you need help drying out after a trickle turned into a torrent, SERVPRO of Stockton is awaiting your call at (209) 477-3090. Our highly qualified workers and cutting edge training and equipment has you back in business in no time.

Clearing Wildfire Soot from the Exterior of Your Stockton Store
1/20/2020 (Permalink)
When a wildfire strikes our Stockton community, SERVPRO is be ready!
Stockton we know what it takes for your business after a fire damage.
When wood and other organic materials burn up in one of the wildfires that Stockton has seen over the years, many of the area businesses and homes can battle soot and residues. Even without being directly in the path of the blaze, soot and smoke particles can travel considerable distances and significantly mar surfaces that do not get cleaned with the proper products and techniques. Our SERVPRO professionals have years of experience in fire recovery, even addressing aesthetic concerns that come with wildfire emergencies.
The appearance of your business can affect how your customers feel about it, including not addressing fire damage to your Stockton craft shop as quickly as you should. Because most people run their AC units and air circulation appliances throughout the year in this part of California, floating carcinogens can get sucked into the intake on the outdoor AC unit and dispersed throughout the store. Not only does this mean that you need restoration for residues on the outside brick veneer and siding of the shop, but now content management and cleaning for areas around interior vents.
Interior cleaning changes based on the materials affected and if your wares have become damaged as well. With many base items for crafts throughout the store, such as unpainted or unadorned wood, frames, and crafting items like twine, rope, paints, jars, and other wares. Depending on the severity of soot residues on these surfaces and items, cleaning these objects can be possible depending on the type of material. We have many cleaning approaches and products, including foam cleaning and peroxide active cleaning that can dissolve the bulk of residues on spackle ceilings.
To many structures, the exterior of the building can take the hardest hit after a wildfire. We have abrasive cleaning techniques like media and soda blasting that is safe to use on numerous construction materials. Even with the vulnerabilities of aging mortar in old buildings throughout the downtown area, soda blasting can clear the surface of soot residues without harming the concrete preventing the need to repoint the mortar joints.
Cleaning up your building after the widespread damages of a wildfire can feel overwhelming, but our SERVPRO of Stockton team can help. We have experienced fire restoration professionals ready to respond 24/7 by calling (209) 477-3090.

How SERVPRO Turns Around Commercial Flood Damage in Stockton Properties
10/20/2019 (Permalink)
SERVPRO knows what flood damage can do to your Stockton business, let us get you on the right track.
Let us show you the way through your Stockton Commercial water damage.
According to a report issued by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), a full 25% of businesses affected by commercial flood damage never reopen for business. One of the key reasons given is the inability to perform needed cleanup or repairs. That is why it is crucial to outsource the task to a professional restoration services company.
When commercial flood damage hits a business property in Stockton, the structure must be water-free, odor-free, and disinfected to reopen for daily operations. There usually are repairs and rebuilding needed to replace flood-damaged building materials. All of this must occur quickly as the longer business remains closed results in a loss of revenue, that in some cases, is not unrecoverable for the company.
Removal of Important Items
SERVPRO technicians look for items that could possibly become damaged if they remain on-site during the water loss cleanup. In properties that have storage for stock, equipment, or essential documents, technicians arrange a fast pack out to preserve these items in a secure location. Paper and wood products degrade when exposed to excess moisture, and the surfaces are extra-inviting for mold growth.
Controlled Demolition Hastens Reopening
It may not look like it, but cutting away ruined sheetrock, disposing of groundwater-soaked carpeting and removing delaminated tile speeds up the drying process, so the required repairs happen in a more expedited manner.
Prepping for Reopening
No matter what type of business received flood loss, clean up of the debris, and water must occur, then SERVPRO technicians work on disinfecting the property. As a category three biohazard, when the groundwater saturates items such as upholstered office furnishings, carpeting, and most porous items-they require disposal. The technicians try to restore all the things they can through their cleaning methods, but some things have no restoration potential. When the disinfection efforts complete, the property is ready for rebuilding.
Skip Looking for a Contractor
With a general contractor license #937457, SERVPRO can offer both cleanup and reconstruction services. This takes the stress out of finding, vetting, and sourcing a construction company to complete any needed repairs before reopening.
When your business has commercial flood damage, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090. The technicians are available 24/7, so they arrive quickly because, as locals, We're Faster to Any Size Disaster.

During any commercial fire damage situation in Stockton, we can use many different tools and techniques to remove soot from the surfaces of your building materials, contents, and structural components. Cleaning items coated in soot residue is much more cost-effective than having to replace the item.
When removing soot residues and soils, our SERVPRO FSTs utilize several industrial cleaning principles. The first step is to locate all of the smoke residues by carefully inspecting the affected area. We then identify the different types of residues found in your house. We then figure out the type of surfaces that got affected. The methods we use to clean items in your building will vary depending on the types of surfaces and soot residues present.
Once we know what methods will work best, we capture and remove the residues. The soils created by the smoke bond to the surfaces they contact. We use dry and wet cleaning processes to release and carry residue particles away from the affected surfaces. We then dispose of the debris and the cleaning waste.
When cleaning, there are a few fundamental elements that must be involved. First off, the temperature of the surface plays a major role in how easy something can be cleaned. Heat can increase the speed of chemical reactions in most cleaning products.
For most soils to get released, some form of agitation must occur. Our FSTs use towels, brushes, or air and water pressure to help dislodge residues. Soils also get released by chemical reactions taking place. Cleaning detergents chemically react with the soil molecules to make them less adhesive.

7/15/2019 (Permalink)
Your customers rely on you for their morning cup of joe. Keep your doors open by calling SERVPRO when you experience water damage.
How Flooding Can Damage Your Stockton Coffee Shop
For as common as flooding might be in Stockton in recent years, it can still catch many businesses in the area by surprise. Even with the drive for your coffee shop to stay open amid this disaster, it comes down to the effective response and sophisticated approaches of professional restorers who can work around the positioning of the damaged areas to allow you to continue serving brews to your patrons. Being a place that serves food and beverages, you have a strict set of guidelines and rules regarding safe practices for your establishment, which can encourage you, even more, to seek out the expertise of trained professionals like our team.
Knowing how flood damage affects Stockton coffee shops can help you to understand how important it is for you to secure the right professional technicians immediately when the flooding begins. Our SERVPRO professionals have a central location in the area, working to be available for every loss incident in a matter of hours so that no customer ever waits longer than necessary for effective mitigation, restoration, and cleanup.
That same fast response that our SERVPRO team provides is critical in establishing containment barriers to allow your facility to run at a limited capacity potentially. It is also vital in starting drying efforts that can protect wooden tables and chairs spread throughout the main floor of the café. Between areas of carpeting and faux hardwood, different drying practices are necessary to prevent tear out and reinstallation of these materials whenever possible.
Our technicians can appreciate a need to get the moisture out of the air as well because dampness and excessive relative humidity can wreak havoc on sophisticated machinery your baristas use to complete orders. If it is challenging or impossible to remove these devices to protect them from moisture and water damage, it puts a set timeline on getting the humidity levels back below an established baseline.
Many patrons depend on your coffee shop every day for their morning commutes and their lunch breaks, so any time you spend with your doors closed is your business losing money. Our SERVPRO of Stockton team can help to work with you to keep the doors open through restoration, or to work around the clock to get them open again as promptly as possible. Give us a call at (209) 477-3090.

How SERVPRO Removes Water From a Stockton Retail Store
3/26/2019 (Permalink)
Water damage can be disastrous for businesses. SERVPRO has the equipment to get your business up and running as quickly as possible.
SERVPRO Technicians Have the Equipment for Commercial Water Damage in a Stockton Retail Store
Water damage can halt business in a retail store. A simple plumbing leak over a single night can completely disrupt your business and the longer the moisture remains secondary damages such as mold, wet drywall and other issues that may go undetected until it is too late. The key is fast action to clean and dry the shop.
SERVPRO is sensitive to the fact that commercial water damage in a Stockton retail store needs to be handled quickly and with as little downtime for the business as possible. Our emergency services are available when you need us, not just during regular business hours.
Our technicians work quickly to remove water and then set up industrial air movers, dehumidifiers and if need, heaters to promptly remove moisture and dry the structure and affected contents. When possible, we dry objects in place, often raised on blocks. When that is not possible, with the owner's permission, we pack and move items to another location for restoration. We communicate with both you and your carrier with each phase of restoration, so everyone is on the same page for how the restoration efforts are progressing at every point.
Mold is a big concern after a water cleanup. SERVPRO technicians are IICRC certified and know the signs of existing mold as well as the conditions needed for mold colonies to set up home and how to avoid that scenario. After drying, moisture probes are used to verify the structure is dry both at the surface and behind drywall and under flooring. Hand cleaning surfaces with antibacterial and antifungal solutions limit the potential for mold growth.
SERVPRO of Stockton has 24-hour emergency services available when you call (209) 477-3090. We are sensitive to the fact you need commercial water damage handled quickly with as little downtime for your business as possible. No matter the amount of water, we have the equipment and expertise to handle it.
Stockton was founded in 1849 and was the first community in California to have an English name. Read more here.
Leaking Windows Can Spell Big Trouble For Your Stockton Property

If your book store ever suffers from a leaking window during a storm, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 24 hours a day.
Commercial Flood Removal Technicians In Stockton Talk About Problems With Leaking Windows
When the rain comes down hard in Stockton, it is possible that moisture will find its way into your book store's building. If water makes its way into your store, then it is wise to call in a professional commercial flood removal company such as SERVPRO. Excessive moisture inside any building can elevate the relative humidity and cause your products and building materials to get wet. We know that saving the books inside your store is essential to reducing the overall cost of the project. We always conduct commercial flood removal in a way that makes it as cheap as possible for your business and your insurance company.
One way moisture can get inside your book store after a rainstorm is through the windows. If a window breaks during the storm, then commercial flood removal in your Stockton book store will need to be completed. If the rain is excessive, then it is possible that your window seals will leak. If moisture gets in from the window, then it will be forced down your walls and onto the floor by gravity. When this happens your contents, and building materials can get wet from the window down.
Once our SERVPRO technicians extract as much water as possible, we start the structural drying process. To dry out a structure as quickly as possible we set up a combination of air movers and dehumidifiers. If several of your books got wet, we could set up extra dehumidifiers to keep the water vapor in the air from ruining your store's products.
In more severe cases when a large number of your books receive damage, we can dry out the items individually. One process we can use for delicate items like books include lyophilization or freeze drying. When we freeze dry items, water gets removed after it is frozen and placed under a vacuum. This allows the frozen H2O to change directly from solid form to a vapor without ever passing through a liquid phase.
If your book store ever suffers from a leaking window during a storm, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 24 hours a day.

Our Water Damage Specialists Can Restore Your Damaged Stockton Business

SERVPRO of Stockton takes the time to ensure that your business is thoroughly dry before we say the job is done.
Commercial Water Damage Cleanup For Your Stockton Business
Leaks in your Stockton cosmetology shop are not only a nuisance but can be costly as well. Whether you find a puddle during a regular inspection or you get an unpleasant surprise when you reach under a sink, it is something that needs to be handled right away. Leaks in your pipes usually start at the joints, and although you can buy over the counter products for a temporary fix, you need a professional company for permanent plumbing repair.
A professional restoration company should handle commercial water damage restoration in Stockton. At SERVPRO, we have the professional training and tools needed to clean up the water and dry your business back out. The sooner we can get to your business the better, so do not hesitate to give our experts a call as soon as you find the leak.
Drying your building fast is essential. Four factors which affect the time that is needed for dying include how much water we need to evaporate, temperatures, humidity, and air movement.
SERVPRO staff understand that when rooms are heated to between 70- and 90-degrees Fahrenheit drying occurs quickly because air which is hot can hold additional moisture. Our technicians can use portable heaters if no heat is available. The ideal range is between 70 and 80 degrees. Anything over this on the first days of drying can result in too much moisture being trapped in the air, creating secondary damage.
The more water we can extract or pump out of your structure the less we have to remove with dehumidifiers. Gas takes longer to remove than liquids, and removal of standing water is much more effective than dehumidification. We use a submersible pump if there are two or more inches of standing water.
RH or relative humidity is how the amount of moisture the air currently contains at a given temperature. The ratio of water vapor which is present in the air, or the RH, compared to the highest amount of water vapor the air can hold at a given temperature. We use dehumidifiers to lower Relative humidity, as it is the most effective method. The moisture that is evaporated is removed from the air by the dehumidifiers.
Also, important to drying is movement of air. The air in a room that is water-damaged is usually humid and damp, slowing down evaporation. By blowing the damp air out and bringing in dry, warm air, the drying process is sped up. We are careful to properly positioning the air movers to help, and monitor the machines daily and move them accordingly to ensure the fastest drying times.
SERVPRO of Stockton takes the time to ensure that your business in Stockton, Lincoln Village, or Ortega is thoroughly dry before we say the job is done. Reach out to us any time you have a water damage emergency by dialing (209) 477-3090.

Some Ways to Avoid Commercial Flood Damage Complications in Stockton
12/5/2018 (Permalink)
Flooding in your warehouse can wreak havoc on the items stored or manufactured there. Contact SERVPRO when flood damage affects your business.
Remediating Commercial Flood Damage in Stockton Businesses
Now that we finally have the rain needed all summer, many Stockton business owners have to deal with the flooding it brings with it. The right restoration service can keep the property, and inventory loss to a minimum, and owners can reopen their doors to customers as quickly as possible.
Commercial flood damage to a Stockton business can be particularly expensive when there is a large amount of equipment used on a daily basis. SERVPRO technicians understand that with a light industry facility like a bakery, there is little damage to the structure, but the equipment cannot be used until it is completely dry and inspected for cleanliness.
When the floodwater first comes rushing in, it splashes everywhere. Since this is outside water, it contains soil and other contaminants. When there is any possibility that floodwater got into an oven or another piece of equipment, our technicians start by spraying every surface with an anti-bacterial agent to eliminate the risk of contamination. Next, they thoroughly clean the inside and then allow the interior to air dry. If the equipment is needed immediately, they use an air mover to force warm, dry air inside and speed up the process.
As SERVPRO technicians dry the interior, others examine the undersides. While the visible exteriors and cooking surfaces are stainless steel, the bottoms are often made from cheaper metals. In addition to spraying them with the same anti-bacterial cleaner, our technicians also examine the surfaces for any sign of rust. If they find any, they use a wire brush to scrape everything clean.
In a warehouse operation, there is little damage to the building, but the standing water still has to be removed quickly to reduce the threat of mold growth. Since the water usually drains quickly, crew members push out the remaining amounts with long-handled squeegees and push-brooms. Next, they spray the entire floor with an anti-bacterial cleaner and then wash the floor clean. To speed up drying, they use a combination of exhaust fans to draw out the damp, interior air, and air movers to force warm air across the floor.
At SERVPRO of Stockton, our goal is to help businesses reopen as quickly as possible. If you are dealing with the results of the current rainstorms, call us today at (209) 477-3090 to schedule an appointment.

Ultimate Solution to Saving Your Stockton Furniture After Commercial Water Damage
9/30/2018 (Permalink)
When the workplace, various tools and associated projects suffer from water damage, contact SERVPRO for remediation and to clean your production area.
How to Save Furniture When Restoring Commercial Water Damage in Stockton
A flooded Stockton workplace presents various challenges. In a bid to extract the water and get back to business, it is possible to overlook some aspects. Unfortunately, such aspects might end up inflating restoration costs. Poorly handled restoration leads to loss of salvageable furniture, and since most of these items are expensive to replace, you end up with an inflated budget that could have been avoided. Our professional restoration services can help you save more of these affected items.
In the restoration of commercial water damage in Stockton, having to deal with different types of furniture presents various challenges. For instance, apart from dirt and rusting, no other water damage is likely to occur on metallic items. However, other damages can occur when moving the items from the affected areas. If a massive filing cabinet drops during such movement, its drawers might jam thus interfering with future operability. Our SERVPRO team can handle any necessary movements safely because we have sufficient workforce and experience.
The damage in wooden items is usually severe unlike in other materials. If left to absorb a lot of water, the wood can develop a wide range of problems. If rot develops, it compromises the structural integrity of the item. Mold might also develop on the item. Finally, any dirt in the water accumulates on the surfaces of the items. For proper restoration, our SERVPRO technicians first spray water from a powerful hose to remove dirt. We also use professional cleaning solutions to deal with traces of white mildew.
Proper drying is critical otherwise, restoration efforts might not bear fruit. If wooden items are put out in the sun to dry, it is likely to cause warping or cracking. Our SERVPRO technicians dry your furniture items indoors and use air movers to speed up drying. In case there are no dry areas within your property where items can be dried, we can move out the items to an offsite facility for proper drying.
For better salvaging of affected furniture items, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

First-Time Concerns
5/25/2018 (Permalink)
During a dire life-threatening crisis, it’s preposterous to consider shopping for comparative ambulance quotes. Wisely, city and country agencies regulate ambulance companies to prevent the unscrupulous and opportunistic behavior. When we need a first responder to provide life-saving remedies we make the emergency call fully assured that help is on the way to mitigate and stabilize the situation.
At SERVPRO of Stockton, we are an experienced property damage mitigation and restoration service provider for commercial and income properties. Similar to a medical emergency the response time for property disaster emergencies is also critical. Without prompt mitigation, things usually go from bad to worse. Repair costs increase the longer you wait. Rapid response to property disasters can also keep affected businesses operating and commercial and residential tenants in place. Even if companies and residents are temporarily displaced, prompt mitigation will help them return more quickly.
Yet, some property and facility managers remain hampered by a requirement to collect comparative bids. For example, at our company our telephone receptionists regularly receive calls from onsite property managers who say, “I’ve got standing water on the first floor of my building can you give us a quote?” Our customer service representatives often hear the following comment, “We have to get at least three quotes before we can use an emergency restoration vendor.”
We understand a client’s responsibility to protect private resources, or public monies by hiring a qualified and approved company that will provide excellent services at a fair price. That’s why we make the following suggestion…
Please understand that there are two distinct phases of work involved in most property damage cleanup projects. Unfortunately, these two phases are often seen as just one point of service. Admittedly the property disaster recovery industry has not done the best job in describing mitigation and restoration, or how this information can be used to your benefit.
Mitigate: To cause or to become less harsh, to make less severe or painful
Restoration: Bringing back to original position or condition.
Mitigation is the work performed by the first responders who provide critical service to contain the damage to the property. Water mitigation responders extract standing water, move contents to non-affected areas, begin to dry and clean the indoor environment to prevent the moisture from spreading and causing further (secondary) damage.
Using our ambulance analogy, the medical first responders may take the patient to the hospital for further treatments such as surgery and recovery. Similarly, water damage mitigation responders may hand the project over to the restoration team who will bring the property back to its original pre loss condition.
Whether you need emergency property damage mitigation or full restoration (build back) services, SERVPRO of Stockton will be there for you. You have our commitment that our fees are reasonable. We have a plan in place called Green Response. It is a pre-work authorization agreement that allows us to help you without having to sign last-minute paperwork or contracts when a disaster strikes. Our Green Response program is unique to SERVPRO of Stockton. It is a simple two-page document designed especially for professional property and facility managers.
Our customer service and commercial account representatives look forward to serving you. Please get in touch: 209-477-3090

Commercial Mold Damage In Stockton Sports And Recreation Venues
3/23/2018 (Permalink)
Commercial Buildings in Stockton Rely on SERVPRO for Mold Remediation and Cleanup
The SERVPRO Approach to Mold Remediation Follows Specific Protocols
Like any large metropolitan area, Stockton and the surrounding areas have many places where the public, students, and professional athletes gather to train, work out, play, and attend sporting and other events. The locker rooms, gyms, showers, training areas, restrooms, and a host of other spaces in a sports arena, health club, or gym can struggle with mold damage. We have the training and capacity to manage even extensive commercial mold remediation projects.
Mold needs one fuel to start its development from innocuous spore to active colony -- moisture. In Stockton’s sports and recreation venues, mold damage links to the many sources of water available. Because liquid moisture is a constant factor in these kinds of facilities, mold remediation must include strategies to reduce its presence. The steam rooms, showers, pools, saunas, and other areas also struggle with high humidity which can cause mold growth by itself when in excess of 60 percent. Our technicians train to meet or exceed industry standards in a comprehensive approach to mold remediation, including eliminating excess water and reducing ambient humidity levels.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed protocols to follow when remediating mold in commercial buildings and schools. We follow these steps to the letter as we respond to mold damage in sport and rec settings. SERVPRO technicians use physical barriers and advanced equipment including negative pressure air scrubbers with high-efficiency filters to contain the mold-infested area. Clad in personal protective equipment, our employees remove active mold colonies, including porous materials infiltrated with mold, and use proven mold remediation products and HEPA filtered vacuums to physically rid areas of moldy debris.
We then work with the business to adapt environments and cleaning routines to ensure moisture and humidity are controlled to prevent future mold damage events. SERVPRO has the unique ability to view the problems without the investment an in-house cleaning department might have. Our training and experience help recreation and sports facilities reach a baseline of moisture management that inhibits ongoing problems with mold growth.
SERVPRO of Stockton has the technology and the technicians to turn a chronic commercial mold damage problem around. Call us at (209) 477-3090 to schedule an assessment.

SERVPRO Removes Water from Flooded Boarding Services in Stockton--We Love Animals
SERVPRO Loves Animals and Helps to Secure Water Damaged Boarding Locations
Animal shelters and boarding locations for pets provide a much-needed service to the Lincoln Village area. When natural disasters like flooding strike these kinds of establishments though, it is critical to get the issues resolved quickly so that the animals in the building do not have to get relocated to a new facility. While it could be tempting to try and resolve the issues with the limited staff you have, these situations should get left to professional restoration companies.
Shelters and boarding for pets both require the need to be open and available whenever people might need them, and a crisis like a significant water emergency could jeopardize that. If you find your Lincoln Valley business in need of water removal services, it is best to call as soon as you can. By calling quickly, our professional SERVPRO technicians can work to ensure that the animals you have in your care are not threatened by the present high volume of water and do not need to be relocated to another place while the restoration occurs.
All in all, our SERVPRO team works to mitigate any losses that might result from incidents like this by acting decisively and quickly to resolve the water emergency. Our professional staff assess the damages to the facility and ensure that the point of water penetration has been sealed off to prevent further pooling and that the restoration efforts are successful.
Depending on the nature of the emergency, we have several tools that can get used to extract the water from the affected area. Most commonly in flooding situations, our team uses pump trucks from our fleet to efficiently pull the water from the floors and prepare the area for drying and potential repairs that could be necessary. Our technicians work alongside your staff to ensure that our restoration efforts do not affect the flow of your business as much as possible, which can prevent profit loss from the incident while we clean up the mess. Assess with SERVPRO ERP to Prevent Water Damage to Lincoln Village Stores
10/23/2017 (Permalink)
Being prepared for a possible emergency can give you an advantage over other businesses in the area should you face damage from any source.
Help Prevent Damage to Your Store or business with Our "ERP" Assessment App
Water leaks are bad news for all Lincoln Village store owners. An unexpected leak might damage your stock or furniture, which is costly to replace, and of course, you might have to shut up shop while you deal with the incident. A closed shop does not make a profit, so it is easy to see why it is better to avoid water damage if you can.
SERVPRO understands that our retail customers are eager to prevent commercial water damage in Lincoln Village if possible. That is why we designed Emergency Ready Profile, or ERP, a free and easy to use app that helps business owners plan for disaster.
One essential component of the Emergency Ready Profile is a building assessment. We recommend using a tablet for your assessment for the best result. Treat the walk-through as seriously as you would treat any other business appointment – set aside a time for it and stick to that time.
SERVPRO provides all Emergency Ready Profile customers with a free field sheet to fill in as you walk around your store. Open the form on your tablet and fill it in as you move from place to place. There is space to enter details about your building, utility shut off points, any hazardous substances, emergency contact numbers and more.
The form also has sections for photographs of building access, elevators, stairwells and more. We suggest using a tablet to make it easy to take photographs as you go.
We also suggest taking this time to look for any potential leak risks in your building. For example, if there is damage to the roof, a dripping faucet, a leaking window frame, or an old appliance with a worn hose or pipe, take note of that. Call in a maintenance specialist as soon as you can – it is better to pay for repairs now than risk water damage.
In the event of water damage, our IICRC-certified technicians are on hand to help. We pump water from your building and extract it from floors, carpets, and soft furnishings. We dry out your premises and even help with deodorization after cleanup is complete.
For help with water damage mitigation in Ortega, Stockton, Lincoln Village and surrounding areas, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 today.

Pressure washing a deck on the USS Hornet.
SERVPRO of Stockton Volunteer crews arrive on the deck of the USS Hornet Naval Museum.
The ship is permanently docked at Alameda's decommissioned Naval Air Station. It was in need of pressure washing and dusting to prepare for the tourist season.
Our sister franchises in San Leandro and San Carlos took on this big job and they called on SERVPRO of Stockton for assistance. We were up to the task. No job is too large or too small for the professionals at SERVPRO of Stockton.
After the work was completed our SERVPRO volunteers were given a private tour of this historic ship. If you haven't taken a public tour of the USS Hornet.. check it out, it's a super family day. They also hold special events to celebrate dates in American history.

Clayton Barry at the Stockton Unified School District Event.
SERVPRO of Stockton is pleased to participate in semi-annual custodian and maintenance department workshops held by the Stockton Unified School District - SUSD.
This year, Clayton Barry from SERVPRO of Stockton spoke about the health benefits that are derived by keeping schools clean. His speech quoted an article by the Huffington Post about the physical and mental health benefits provided by cleaning in general. He also told a story from his childhood about intentionally scattering trash on the school grounds to keep the janitor busy so he wouldn't lose his job. He told about his punishment which was to work with the janitor after school for a week. The audience was amused.
In the balance of the presentation, Clayton highlighted his message that all of us who engage in cleaning should take pride and satisfaction in our work because it makes a positive difference in people's lives when they are able to attend a tidy, clean and healthy school facility.
SERVPRO is on the vendor list to provide disatster recovery services for the SUSD and enjoys supporting the hard working employees of the district.

Facilities Managers Pre-Work Agreement
4/26/2017 (Permalink)
Building Engineers have an important role in protecting properties.
Facilities managers have a huge resposibility to be prepared in case a property diasaster happens at a facility under their control. Having key emergency service vendors in place and ready to go is the best recipe for success.
What happens when a fire happens at a facility at 3:00 AM in the morning? Having a potential vendor arrive in a timely manner is not the issue. Getting the "authorization paperwork" signed to initiate the cleanup is often the issue.
SERVPRO of Stockton has solved this problem with our "pre-work authorization" agreement. The agreement is customized to your specific requirements. It provides the information you need to pre-qualify an emergency mitigation service vendor. Our agreement also allows you to pre-approve the list of services and the actual pricing. The pre-work authoriztion document provides us with a guarantee for payments of the services we provide on your behalf for 24 to 72 hours (your choice).
SERVPRO of Stockton calls this agreement Green Response. Our customer.
